Bubble Writing - Handwriting Scaffold UKS2

(10)
Bubble writing - cursive handwriting scaffold Like many primary school teachers I have tried a variety of handwriting schemes with varying degrees of success. Having thought through many common problems with handwriting I have developed a simple scaffold that places a bubble either side of the line to support letter formation. This simple scaffold provides a guide to consistently form cursive letters and ensure each letter is uniform in both height and width. Children are able to leave equal spaces between words and see clearly whether or not there is enough space at the end of each line for the next word they intend to write. There has been a huge impact within my class in a very short space of time and I hope you will see similar benefits within your own setting. Included is a PowerPoint presentation including words from the Year 5/6 spelling list that can be printed as a handwriting pack for children to work through. Blank slides enable you to add words to suit your needs and finally 2 different sized PDF scaffolds that children can use to write on (If photocopied the bubbles will disappear to leave the writing that has been completed.)

Year 6 Leavers Assembly - Prison Break

(1)
This assembly script is designed for Y6 leavers - focusing on being locked in ‘primary jail’ for various crimes and needed to perform tasks to escape to secondary school. Each child has committed a crime (e.g. crimes against handwriting/dad dancing etc). one child from each task escapes until they join a group at the end, who perform a dance - therefore when adapting to suit your class, you may need to change the crimes or order of children. It could be adapted to suit any transition year. Our class thoroughly enjoyed this play.

Oracy 'Talk like a ...' Cards 11 subject bundle

Contains Talk Like a… Reader Writer Mathematician Musician Good Citizen Theologist Artist Scientist Designer Geographer Historian The sentence stems on the cards support discussions and writing! There are 2-3 different levels depending on subject to allow for progression. We had these cards professionally printed at a local printers, double sided with a matt laminate to avoid any reflection of light and I would highly recommend this! If you need to keep costs lower, I would suggest buying some matt laminating pouches. The cards we use across the curriculum. Their use should be modelled and encouraged by staff. Encouarge children to challenge themselves to use a variation of stems to avoid repeating the same starters.

Dragons' Den Persuasive Project! (Building Speaking & Listening and Persuasive Writing Skills!)

(1)
This resource is perfect for enabling students to build both their persuasive writing and their speaking and listening skills. Based upon the popular BBC series 'Dragons' Den', students have the opportunity to research, design, pitch, and evaluate arguments for their own inventions, whilst simultaneously analysing persuasive pitches, revising persuasive techniques, structuring arguments and articulating convincingly. Included is a 16 page booklet (I would say at least 4-5 hour lessons of tasks) that lead students to: - Introduce themselves and their interests; - Watch persuasive pitches (links included) and identify persuasive devices; - Analyse why persuasive devices are effective; - Structure an analysis appropriately; - Brainstorm ideas for an invention using imagination and helpful aiding questions; - Formulate an argument by considering key questions and counter arguments; - Write and present a persuasive pitch; - Peer-evaluate and self-evaluate persuasive pitches. I have also provided some examples of news stories featuring the worst and best pitches from the den, in order to provoke discussion about what makes a strong pitch. Creative Writing Scheme of Work GCSE

7 Resources
Full scheme of work covering all aspects of creative writing. Ideal in preparing students for GCSE English Language Paper 1, Section B. Designed with the very latest developments in the 9-1 specification in mind, this is best suited to the AQA syllabus but would be equally useful for both KS3 prep and other exam boards. Please see individual resources for more details. The lessons all work well as stand-alone, but if being used in sequence, the scheme runs as follows: Lesson 1 - Vocabulary Lesson 2 - Sensory Description Lesson 3 - Devices and Techniques Lesson 4 - Narrative and Descriptive Openings Lesson 5 - Sentence Variation Lesson 6 - Characterisation Lesson 7 - Narrative Structure Each lesson takes the form of a ‘masterclass’; each masterclass is packed with a range of activities that will enable your students to truly embed and master each aspect of creative writing. Each ‘lesson’ is probably going to take in excess of 2 hours to get through - you may wish to ‘pick and choose’ activities, or take your time with each skill area and cover them in depth. I'm using this as a reminder to pupils (and I am embarrassed to say which year they are in!) but I thought it could be useful to others. A ppt for recapping how to use some punctuation in a sentence correctly, looking specifically at questions and statements, capital letters, and apostrophes (with omission only, not possession - that will come in another ppt later).
