A fantastic Maths Challenge! ANSWERS provided!
Learning Intention: To investigate time zones and to calculate flight times.
Activity: Students have to calculate the arrival time (UK and local time at destination) for each flight.
For the highest achieving students, they have to use the 2 websites provided to calculate flight times and time zone differences as well as generating their own flights!
Almost every parent commented on how exciting and challenging this homework challenge was and the students loved it!

Please note: Depending on the time of year, the flight times on the activity sheets may vary by 1 HOUR. This is because of daylight saving times (when the UK clocks move forwards/backwards by 1 hour ). You don’t need to worry about this, just use the times written on the activity.
Seconds, Minutes and Hours - Year 1
In this year 1 teaching resource pupils are introduced to units of time (hours, minutes and seconds) as per the statutory requirements of the year 1 maths programme of study (Measurement).
This colourful PowerPoint lesson includes:
1. What are seconds, minutes and hours
2. Interactive activities with accompanying worksheet

‘Seconds, Minutes and Hours - Year 1’ is editable so teachers can adapt the resource to meet their individual teaching needs.
This telling the time puzzle is a fun way to test students ability to tell the time. Students match the image of an analogue clock, the time in words, digital and 24-hour time.
Included are variations of the follwing times: o’clock, half past, quarter past and to, 10 minute intervals and minute intervals.
It is designed to be easily cut with little wastage. So either the teacher or tutor can prepare the cards by cutting them before hand, or students can cut their own cards, giving them a chance to see the solutions before they attempt the puzzle.
Although this product is made in colour, it prints perfectly well in black and white.

Sequencing Events - Year 1
In this KS1 Maths teaching resource pupils are taught to sequence events in chronological order using language such as (before, after, next, first etc) as per the statutory requirements of the year 1 maths programme of study (Measurement).
This colourful PowerPoint presentation includes an interactive class activity and an accompanying cut out worksheet.
‘Sequencing Events - Year 1’ is editable so teachers can adapt the resource to meet their individual teaching needs.
3 worksheets where children need to read the time on the analogue clock and write them time, and draw the hands on the analogue clock to show the time. Times are to the nearest 5 minute intervals: o’clock,5 past, 10 past, quarter past, 20 past, 25 past, half past, 25 to, 20 to, quarter to, 10 to and 5 to the hour.
Some of my children struggle with “Time” so I made this break down, to display on the wall around the classroom wall clock. It made a difference straight away and the children really do benefit from seeing it everyday rather than just during lessons when the topic is ‘Time’.
