Notes - Algebra - 1. Rules of Algebra

A few years ago I wrote a set of notes for pupils and put them on my website. The notes were supposed to be written in a pupil-friendly way, and different to notes students might find in textbooks or elsewhere on the internet. I have converted the notes to PowerPoint slides so you can download them, adapt them if needed, use them in revision lessons or perhaps give your students a set to take home with them to help them prepare for exams. The chances are there will be a few mistakes here and there, so if you spot any please email me & I will correct them. Hope they are of use!

Algebra Substitution Board Game This is a fun way to practice algebra substitution. Evaluating Algebraic Expressions Activity There are 2 game boards which can be printed in colour or black and white. The blue and white board is the main playing board. There is also a second easier board (green and white) which can be used for less able students or younger children. ✎ Contents: This resource includes: 2 Game Boards Printable Playing Counters. Teachers Notes. Game Instructions. ✦ Objectives: This resource has been designed to practice: Evaluating algebraic expressions in one variable. Algebra substitution. Positive and negative numbers. ✽ Directions: Put the students into small groups. It will work best with groups of 2 to 4 students. Give each group a game board, a set of playing counters and a dice. ⚅ To Play: Students play by throwing the dice and using the dice number as “d” to substitute into the algebra expression on their square. This is how many squares they can move around the board. A player wins when they have completed 3 laps of the board. ✦ Equipment: You will need one dice for each board. Also scissors to cut out the playing counters. ♥ You may also like: Algebra Substitution Worksheets ☞ To view my other resources, please go to Maths Shop

Algebra Alphabet - KS2 Algebra

**Solving equations to find the missing letters of the alphabet! ** Suitable for the Algebra topic for KS2 children who need a challenge! Page 1 in the format ‘2x + 3 = 11’ Page 2 is tricker and involves division with algebra. Could be split in half, with one half of the class on Page 1 and the other on page 2, then coming together at the end to reveal the whole alphabet. I also used this one-on-one with a tutee. ANSWERS INCLUDED For Printed and Interactive Use! Helpful comments embedded. Perfect for teachers and tutors. Dyselxia-friendly! Sans serif font. Font size 12 minimum Clear spacing A fun way to solve algebra equations for children who are excelling with algebra. I actually used this with a Year 3 tutee (!) but this was very unusual. I would recommend it for Y4 and above definitely. Suitable for Y6 and even Y7 as a fun starter. Page 1 requires knowledge of solving 2-step algebra equations. Page 2 requires knowledge of dividing 3 digit numbers by 10 and using division in algebra. Made by Ella (@ellalessons) A full-time tutor and resource creator. Thanks for downloading!
