David Hockney art lesson

Very easy art lesson that will require no planning! I did this lesson with my year 6 class in 1 afternoon. It gives a brief history of David, his interests and inspirations. The lesson is a very easy to follow step-by-step break down of how to paint a David Hockney landscape. The lesson encourages the children to experiment with colour and perspective. My class produced some really nice pieces by the end -one of which I have used as the example on the slide.

Perspective in Art History

This presentation takes you through a range of examples of how perspective systems have been used in Art from pre-Renaissance to Cubism and gives short accompanying texts to explain the developments. Originally devised for a year 9 class, this presentation has been useful in giving context to KS4 and 5 classes developing drawing and painting skills and also as a way of introducing Cubism in a meaningful way. With a good range of images to illustrate different forms of perspective, the presentation is useful for generating discussion and improving art historical understanding.

Art History booklet and worksheets featuring a timeline of movements, images, key artists and information. Can be used as a whole SOW or an extended homework project, across KS3-KS5. 17 page booklet featuring information and images related to Art History Movements such as Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, Post-Modernism and many more. A timeline gives the time period, brief information and key artists within art movements from 30,000 BC - Present day. Six key Art Movements expanded in more detail with images, important related artists and further information about the movement. These information sheets are then followed by worksheets that feature questions about the movement, including their opinion and analysis of a piece of work. Key terms and Art Vocabulary on each worksheet provides support for lower ability and SEN students. Final worksheet allows students to summarise their favourite movement and write about which movement they feel has been most influential in the Art World. It also invites students to recreate their favourite piece of art they have researched and includes a section where they can analyse and self-assess their artwork. Sentence starters and a key word word-cloud supports lower ability and SEN pupils. Fully editable document on Microsoft PowerPoint, can be printed or used digitally. Ideal for home learning, homework, or in-lesson as an Art History scheme of work.

Art History Easter Egg Hunt

The best thing about Easter? Easter egg hunts of course! – well, in my humble opinion. So, this year whilst social distancing is in place, I have come up with a viable and pleasingly art-based alternative. I give you… the art history Easter egg hunt! A game for two players, simply download and print. Cut along the dotted line and each take a picture of the painting. Next mark where you choose to ‘hide’ your egg. Then take turns asking questions to find where it is hidden. Easy and fun! You can even play on-screen if you don’t have access to a printer. Plus, you can partner with someone over the phone to do this Easter egg hunt – perfect when you are self-isolating! I’ll be posting more on my blog. Check them out here: www.felt-tip-pen.com
