Roll the dice and create something amazing!
This is a roll the dice board game for Creative Writing. It consists of a vibrant grid full of images, words and phrases to provoke outside-the-box thinking and writing!
Students roll the dice to choose a genre, then roll again moving across the board to land on weird and wonderful prompts, including a frog, thunderstorm, chain-link fence, digger and orca.
This has produced some really outstanding writing from my students and can be used to aid writers' block in even the most reluctant of budding authors.
NOTE: This product requires you to supply your own dice.
Elf tells the story of ‘Buddy the Elf’ who was accidentally taken to the North Pole in Santa’s sack one Christmas Eve. He stayed in the North Pole until adulthood and grew up thinking he was an elf himself. One day he found out he was a human, and decided to go and visit his biological father in New York.
On arrival he wasn’t welcomed by his father until a DNA test reassured him that he was actually his son. The family grew to like Buddy, and he also found a girlfriend – but then everything changed when he fell out with his father one day and decided to leave.
But as he was walking alone he heard a crash in Central Park, when he went to investigate he noticed it was his good friend, Santa. The family caught up with him and realised he had been telling the truth all along, he was in fact an elf from the North Pole. The friends and family all worked together to lift Christmas spirit and thus power Santa’s sleigh to ensure he could finish his deliveries.
There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 20-22 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too.
I hope you have fun with it, my class had a ball! The play is around 40-50 minutes long.

Do you have students who shrug at inspiration and puff their cheeks at imagination? Use this great tool for slow writing to get them thinking about not just what to write, but how to write it.
Currently with 54 different sentence types, print these back-to-back (flipping the page on the short edge), then guillotine the cards, eh voila!
Shuffle the cards and get writing.
Each card comes with an explanation and at least one example to help guide your students in their writing:
Example: the chiasmus sentence
A repetition (in reverse order) or words, phrases or ideas already expressed (balanced clauses reverse each other).
Readers don’t need to write but writers do need to read.
Never let a fool kiss you or a kiss fool you.
This is a script that has been performed successfully by primary school aged children with adults, but can be performed by high school age and above. It’s 1 hour without an interval but has been written as two 30 minute Acts. Including the music adds about 10 minutes on each Act.
The lines are suitable for children to learn (in our performance Oliver and Dodger were 8 years old) and has a suitable ending for a children’s production.
The cover picture gives you an idea of costume and staging. I have had media consents to use this picture.

This is a 30 page creative expression book which is great for children to express what they want, need and give them a safe place to express themselves with freedom or safety. Each page contains a question/idea for a drawing allowing the child to explore feelings, emotions and dreams. The book can support the child to express themselves in a safe way instead of relying on talking which can be a lot more difficult and confronting, especially for children who have had difficult childhood experiences.
This book is about giving a voice and giving the child a choice as to what creative medium they would like – finger paint, draw, sketch, colour, write, anyway they want to express themselves.

⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
The first play script is a funny play based on the Will Ferrell movie - Elf. The script follows the story line of the movie with Buddy the Elf being a human who is raised as an elf in the North Pole. Buddy finds out the truth and goes looking for his family who are not too receptive about his appearance or general behavior! But Buddy turns them all around before finally saving Christmas with his festive cheer! There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 20-22 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too. The play is around 40-50 minutes long.
⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
Secondly, we have The Grinch which is a funny play loosely based on the Grinch by Dr. Seuss, and the well known movie. The story revolves around the town of Whoville, where all the Whos love Christmas. In fact they love Christmas so much it is all they talk about! However, a mysterious outcast lives to the North of the town; this outcast hates Christmas and anything to do with the festive time of year. The Grinch has a plan to ruin Christmas for the town, and steals all the presents on Christmas eve. He has a change of heart however when he hears the town enjoying Christmas even though he had stolen all of the presents. His heart grows and he quickly returns the gifts and takes part in all the festivities. There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 28 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too for up to 30 students. The play is around 40-50 minutes long.
⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
Thirdly, we have a play script for A Christmas Carol, however it is a modern remake that is based in a school - with the head teacher being Ebenezer Scrooge - you can change the names of the characters to teachers in your school, or to rhyme with teachers in your school as I did (if they have a sense of humour)! There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 20-22 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too.
⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
Then, we have a funny play based on the Tim Allen movie - The Santa Clause. The script follows the movies story line of a man who accidently disrupts Santa’s deliveries and has to take over his route before finding his way to Santa’s work shop. He then slowly starts turning into Santa, which everybody else finds hard to believe!
And finally a play script for A Christmas Carol; it is a traditional version that follows Ebenezer Scrooge’s hauntings through the night of Christmas Eve. There are song recommendations throughout the script and roles for 20-22 speaking parts.
