Assembly - Teamwork and Expectations of a New Academic Year

(0)
I often use this assembly for the first assembly of the new academic year. In the first section of the assembly I talk about how this is the 'first day a new journey'. How students can remodel them self if they would like to this year of continue the good work from the previous year or years. I then talk about the basic expectations of the year. Uniform expectations, behavioral expectations and such like. The final section of the assembly is a practical that students really love but takes some preparation. One a table at the front of the assembly hall I sit a bowl of sweets on a table. I also selotape a spoon to a meter long ruler to create a meter long spoon! You will need two of these. I ask for two volunteers to come out and hand them a meter long spoon each. I tell the volunteers that they have 1 minute to eat as many sweets as possible however, there is one condition. They can only hold the meter long spoon by then end. The only way that they will be able to eat the sweets is to feed each other. Once the demonstration is done I talk to the year group about how this is an example of being a team and that at school we have to help each other to make sure we succeed. I use the acronym to finish the assembly: T - together E - everyone A - acheives M - more

New Year Assembly 2018

This assembly powerpoint takes a twist on the idea of setting a new years resolution, by hanging on to the idea that everybody wants to be successful. It then looks at what successful people do to ensure they are successful with school based examples that students can relate to. If students haven't mad new years resolutions this assembly will inspire them to and if they have then it may give them some more to work towards. This assembly lasted 15 minutes and went down well with the students.

Chinese New Year Song

(0)
A fun song written for a Reception class to be performed with actions and instruments to enhance their assembly about ‘Chinese New Year.’ but it would be suitable for the whole of KS1. The actions are contained in the lyrics of the song and tuned percussion were used to create melodic ostinati. The children really loved creating a fan dance to the backing track in between the two verses.

Happy New Year Poem This is a “Happy New Year” poem that you can use with your students to help ring in 2022! I like to write the poem on chart paper for my students and give them a copy to read in their reading binder. For distance learning you can share your screen with your students and read together. I like to have my students find letters, words, and punctuation in the poem.

This can be used as an assembly for Primary aged children. It celebrates weird and wonderful traditions around the world for seeing in the new year. It has a youtube link for the fireworks displays from around the world, that can be played when children are entering the assembly. It then discusses the fireworks display in London 2023 and some of its meaning. The Powerpoint has different discussion points and is very relevant and up to date. It then touches on the importance of the song, Auld Lang Syne, on New Year’s Eve and has a link to a beautiful version of the song for children to leave assembly to. This can be easily adapted for whole school or individual class lessons.
