Appraisal (Performance Management) is a necessary part of school.
These simple documents allow senior leaders to support the development of teachers across school.
They are different from other appraisal documents as they are used as an ongoing record of information that are updated whenever monitoring takes place. This way, all of the information that senior leaders gather on teacher performance are centralised on one document - the teacher’s performance management documentation.
The pack contains:
Appraisal / Performance Management Documentation
Wellbeing Audit
Guidance (on how to use the documents)
These are particularly effective when used alongside other monitoring documents such as:

For use alongside lesson observations and learning walks, this succinct performance grid enables observers to gauge and categorise teaching and learning sessions using OFSTED guidance for effective teaching. The first page of the document provides descriptors of ‘outstanding’, ‘good’, ‘requires improvement’ and ‘inadequate’ teaching within appropriately considered focus areas, for example: Questioning, Planning, Use of Additional Adults, etc. Schools that already employ this tool often opt to highlight the descriptors on this page as they observe, thus creating a bigger picture of the strengths and areas for improvement in the teaching and learning observed. Schools who still grade individual lessons have noted that this is a helpful aid in arriving at an overall judgement. The second page allows observers to further pinpoint and describe the ‘www’ (what went well) and ‘ebi’ (even better if) aspects of the lesson, in order to make feedback to teachers more clear.

Performance Management and Appraisal - HR is a lecture which is covered during Human Resource Management Module.

The main topics we cover include the basics of performance appraisal, tools for appraising performance, dealing with rater error appraisal problems, the appraisal interview, employee engagement guide for managers, and performance management.
**Interesting Issues: **
TRW supplies automotive steering, braking, and safety and electronic equipment to customers worldwide. Several years ago, TRW was deeply in debt. With over 100,000 employees on five continents, TRW management knew it had to base its new strategy on improving competitiveness and performance. At the time, most of the firm’s far-flung departments used their own paper-based performance appraisal systems. Top management decided it needed a new company-wide performance management system to help bring what TRW’s employees were doing into synch with the firm’s new strategic goals. We will see what they did.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the performance appraisal process.
Define the pros and cons of at least eight performance appraisal methods.
Give examples of potential appraisal problems and how to deal with them.
List steps to take in the appraisal interview.
Explain key points in how to use the appraisal interview to boost employee engagement.
Explain how you would take a performance management approach to appraisal.
In this file you will find:
1 Performance Management and Appraisal Lecture Power Point Presentation
1 Guide file how to conduct Lecture
1 Test Bank with 110 different questions with full answer description and explanation
3 Case Studies with all answers to them
10 Interesting Discussion Questions and answers to them

Here is the PowerPoint, worksheets and lesson plan for a performance management lesson on 'The Tyger'. I used some ideas already here on TES reources and changed them for my lesson. This was delivered after teaching Milton's Paradise Lost and Dante's Inferno, as transition from KS3 to KS4. This led up to pupils writing a PETE response and comparing 2 of the poems, according to AQA English Literature 2010 spec.
Suitable for 14-19-year olds (secondary and high schools, and college), this article and accompanying activity sheet can be used in the classroom, STEM clubs and at home.
This resource links to KS4 and KS5 biology and psychology.
It can also be used as a careers resource and links to Gatsby Benchmarks:
Gatsby Benchmark 2: Learning from career and labour market information
Gatsby Benchmark 4: Linking curriculum learning to careers
• This teaching resource explains the work of Dr Judith Andersen, a Canadian researcher specialising in psychophysiology and health, Dr Harri Gustafsberg, a Finnish retired police officer who now works as a mental resilience coach, and Dr Joseph Arpaia, a psychiatrist. They are training police officers to manage stress by controlling the physiological outputs caused by psychological inputs.
• This resource also contains interviews with the team and offers an insight into careers in psychophysiology. If your students have questions for the team, they can send them through the Futurum Careers website.
• The activity sheet provides ‘talking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on the team’s research and challenges them to conduct their own psychophysiology experiment.
This resource was first published by Futurum Careers, a free online resource and magazine aimed at encouraging 14-19-year-olds worldwide to pursue careers in science, tech, engineering, maths, medicine (STEM) and social sciences, humanities and the arts for people and the economy (SHAPE).
