Free-flow ideas for sci-fi fun!
Your class will love thinking up feature ideas for an alien, and independent writers will be keen to fill up the lines of this sheet with their descriptions. Are the alien’s eyes rolling, red, twinkly as stars, or different again? Could its skin be soggy, spiky, scorching as desert sand or covered in green hair, perhaps? Discuss possibilities with the class to unlock minds, and let each read out a line afterwards. See my other free alien writing sheet too, for a format variation - also my other space writing sheets, featuring planets, stars, and space rhymes.
This Alien crime scene activity pack is a great addition to your Alien - or Space - themed topic. With this pack you will be able to create a crime scene where a someone has crash landed on Earth in their UFO but they are missing! Students have to investigate using the clues provided to find out who has landed on Earth and what planet they have come from out of 4 possible choices.
This crime scene is designed to be interactive, engaging and adapted to suit students ability levels.
This crime scene includes the following activities;
• Planet and Alien Information Booklet
Students look through this booklet to find out information on the 4 possible planets and the aliens that live on them. The booklet holds important information to help students work out which alien has landed on Earth.
• Taste - Eat
Something has been left behind for students to taste! (Popcorn) Students have to taste the item, decide what it is and then match it to the alien who likes to eat it.
• Taste - Drink
Something has been left behind for students to smell! (Milk) Students have to drink the item, decide what it is and then match it to the alien who likes to drink this.
• Eye Witness Reports
Students need to read through the 4 witness reports. The witnesses are explaining one of the aliens. Students need to look for the important bits of information to match it to an alien in the line up.
• Matching Footprints
Footprints have been left behind at the scene! Students need to look at the footprints and try and match them to the aliens footprints.
• Clue Book
Students put their clues into the clue book as they go along. This way they are able to keep track of all the clues they have found. This will help them when they need to make a decision on who they think has landed on Earth and where they are from.
• Going Home
Students need to help the alien find his way through the maze to get back to his UFO.
• Following Instructions
The alien is in his UFO and ready to get back to his planet - but it’s invisible! Can you follow the instructions and help the alien get home?
Your students will love taking part in this fun and interactive crime scene. A teachers walkthrough is also included in the pack to help you put together the crime scene and use it to the best of its ability. I would also recommend trying out the crime scene before giving it to your students so that you are able to familiarize yourself with the way that it works.
This comes in both spelling options i.e color/colour, favorite/favourite etc.
Almost everything that you need to complete this crime scene is included in this pack. However, you will need access to popcorn and milk for students to taste/smell.

The aliens are all my own design and those who have the same sound but a different way of writing it are the same shaped alien but a different colour, helping to identify sound families. This carries over to the Phase 5 version.
There is an alien for each sound and 6 sets of underwear (vest and underpants). Vests have real words and the underpants have nonsense words.
This resource has been designed to be open ended and used in many ways. Some ideas for how to use are listed below:
Matching – match either vest or underpants or even both to the alien that has the sound that’s in the words.
Pick a pair – match a vest and underpants that contain the same sound. Or match the alien to either the vest or the underpants.
Sorting – sort the alien words from the real words.
Bingo – pick either a vest or underpants and read the word. Hold up the alien whose sound is in the word.
Display – make a washing line, place an alien next to it. Sort out which underwear belongs to him and hang it on the line.
A fun resource to practice pseudo words and phonics that will fit into your Alien or space topics.
This pack has lots of different activities to practice reading pseudo words contain the Phase 3 sounds.

Roll and Read Alien Names
There is a board for each phase 3 sound. The board with oo can be used for oo and oo (u). Ideally played in pairs and children can see how many alien families they can cover up.

Aliens Ahoy
Play as a group or in pairs. Players close or cover their eyes. Adult or chosen child hides one of the alien cards underneath a spaceship. Players take turns to guess which spaceship by saying the word that’s on the spaceship. Winner hides the alien next.
Either chose to focus on a sound or mix them up. The choice is yours, with 10 pseudo per sound there are plenty of games to play.
Buying these in a bundle will save you 29% on the total cost buying each resource separately. So why not grab yourself a bargain.

I have a challenging Y9 Spanish group made up of all boys. I took them to the computer room and told them they were investigative reporters who were interested in the supernatural and the unexplained. They were then given this task sheet and I have never seen them so focussed. They all decided it was alien in origin and won't be persuaded otherwise, even when I told them about the severed heads.
Build early reader confidence with MY MONSTERS books, to target a specific sound (oi) with ** alien words** and cute monsters the kids will love.
The books
Print double sided A4, fold and your A5 book is ready!
Each book has a range of alien words, an assessment chart and a fun activity to finish. Our kids LOVED these and it really helped in preparation for the phonics screening.
Flashcards (not included)
The flashcards print double sided and all the pages line up, so only cut once and your set is ready to go! Each card has the alien name on the front and three related alien words on the back, great for games and questioning.
The set matches the book so it’s a huge confidence boost for the kids, as they’ve already practiced reading the names.
Our teachers said…
“Being able to send the books home with parents and then use the flashcards the next day was really great. They loved seeing the aliens from the story they had read the night before!”
“The books print ready to go, so all we did was give them out at the end of the day. It was easy to target the sounds they had got wrong and we used the same books for home-packs and in class interventions.”
“The kids loved the aliens and enjoyed making different voices for each one which was great as it helped them forget they were reading and enjoy the book with friends.”
Try the book, the flashcards or both today and see how much your kids will love them!

Bring fun and laughter into your space studies with this two-page, quick-fire roll of crazy, snappy rhymes about aliens, rockets, stars and more! Most are couplets, with a few 4-line verses too, and all are bonkers! They’ll inspire variations and brand new rhymes from your class, boosting their literacy skills.
The rhymes are my own, and I’ve used some in my space poetry sessions.
TIPS for class rhymes - I recommend starting with “space”, eliciting a list of single words that rhyme with it to write below. Then fill up the line leading up to “space”, e.g. I saw an alien up in space, and finally think up a line to end with your rhyming word, e.g. She was doing up her lace. Have fun!

I hand these cards out in the morning and we talk about the behaviours that we are going to be spotting and the children keep the card on their desk throughout the day and when they spot another child displaying the behaviour then they write that child’s name on the card.
At the end of the day we then share the cards and celebrate those children who have been spotted doing the right thing.
These cards encourage children to think about and look out for positive behaviours whilst also engaging in positive behaviours themselves.

-The Big Book of Grammar Teaching will give you clear definitions, examples and games to do with you class.
-The Grammar Gang characters come in two formats- one as just the characters, and the other has them holding boards so that you can write examples of sentence structures and hang them on your class washing line.
-The parts of speech posters will liven up any display, and they use the Grammar Gang characters for familiarity.
-Hilarious Headlines is an amazing game that I guarantee your kids will love! The cards all have nouns, verbs and phrases. Children are given 5 random cards they have to make into a grammatically correct sentence. Purple Aliens Dab in the White House anyone?
-Our prefix dominoes teach a range of prefixes, and will give you the chance to explain the role of root words without the children even realising!
-Synonym Happy Families is a take on the old card game. Challenging in its vocabulary, the game asks the students to create families whose name has a similar meaning. Personally, I don’t think I’d want to be in family with Mr Fury, Mrs Anger, Master Hot-tempered or Miss Livid!
