Reception Baseline Assessment Booklet

(0)
I have created a baseline assessment on entry to Reception, because I struggled to find a baseline assessment that matched the new Development Matters document. Therefore, I have used Development Matters, July 2021 to create this document and to look at what we would expect children to be doing when they enter Reception in September, to be 3-4 years secure. I hope this resource helps you too! Literacy assessment: Name writing Word writing (higher achievers) Letter formation Any sounds known Rhyme Initial sound Nursery Rhymes Maths assessment: Subitising Oral counting ‘Number fingers’ 1:1 counting Number recognition Match number and quantity Shape recognition Repeating patterns Colours More and Less

Writing Assessment Success Ladders

(1)
This resource helps with writing assessment across the primary phases from Foundation to Year 6. This is a set of writing assessment ladders for Foundation to Year 6 pupils. The content is based on Age Related Expectations in Writing for National Curriculum 2014. There are also statements based on the current Foundation Stage requirements and statements taken from previous L6 descriptions to cover pupils who exceed Year 6 A.R.E. Statements can be used to set targets and monitor progress of pupils in writing. They could be stuck into books and used as success criteria for writing. The ladders cover Spelling, Handwriting, Composition, Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation for all year groups. These are then broken down into Beginning, Developing and Secure to enable progress tracking.

Self assessment Traffic light

(0)
I had this displayed each year in my class. Sometimes I used the mini traffic lights to start with and then once children understood moved onto coloured dots only. Some children remained on the preprinted lights as they needed the layout to choose the correct circle and some needed the visual. I always had 1 lesson on the traffic light system to explain each colour. Some children needed the yellow explaining as needing more practice to get it right rather than just more practise to feel confident as self-confidence sometimes affected this result. It also needed explaining that red means you cannot do it without help…rather than if I had any help I am red as sometimes 2 minutes extra help meant a child could be green - which is just good teaching practise.
