Simple worksheet where children have to find halves and quarters of numbers using cm. We used cm cubes to practically measure and then shared the cubes in to two circles for halving and four for quarters.
Homework sheet with a similar format - counting jumps and skips.
Year 2 finding fractions of lengths. Differentiated x 3 (HA,MA,LA) included pictures and worded problems. HA sheet encourages pupils to write their own worded questions to accompany pictures and facts.

I made these for a Year 5 class. I set up 9 stations around the room with specific lengths of string or wool at each (I taped them to the table). At two of the stations I used cubes and counters.
The children had to measure the lengths and then complete the table finding fractions, percentages and decimals then converting the measurements.
It worked quite well and the higher abilities were challenged by the inch conversion extension as it involves multiplying decimals.
Delivered to a year 9 KS4 class but can be altered for each year or ability.
Introduces the students to the idea of fractions being hydrocarbons of similar length and propeties.
Visual aids help the students to understand how chain length and intermolecular forces affect properties of the fractions.
QR codes provided and link to youtube channels.
Student lead activity to explain how fractional distilation occurs (chance to make model answers).
Worksheet included for researching the fractions and their uses.
Plenary is exam style questions
Now is the time for a special value on worksheets with Easter-themed percent word problems, reading, writing and adding decimals, and loads of beginner to advanced fraction problems.
Great clip art included.
You’ll find tons of themed math products in My Shop.

This is an excellent overview of the process used to separate crude oil by fractional distillation. It covers the terms viscosity and volatility and aims to get student linking them to boiling point and chain length. It was designed to go with the new AQA GCSE syllabus in the Crude oil and hydrocarbons topic.
I have attempted to write a mastery lesson for my year 8 set 3 (of 4) class. There is a fairly challenging starter which ass the students to add two fractions, before moving on to adding 4 fractions and then mixed number fractions.
Then there is an introduction to finding the perimeter of a rectangle and then finding a length when given the width and the perimeter. The answers to these questions are not all integer values.
Then there are questions on finding the perimeter when the lengths are given as fractions.
This is repeated for finding the perimeter or missing lengths for triangles
There are slides that ask students to discuss ideas, and brings in other ideas such as equilateral triangles and estimating.
The plenary asks students to make up their own lengths for the shapes that have to meet the given criteria.
This resource contains two worksheets on unit fractions for Year 2 pupils.

A complete resource pack (11 activities + assessment) for teaching length in KS2. Included in the pack is: plans for all activities; flipchart for lesson starters (ActivInspire, PowerPoint and PDF format); answer sheets (where applicable); a random worksheet generator (Excel) and a mini-assessment (for all metric measurements, not just length). The children will love the fun interactive activities, the “amazing length facts”, the journey round Kilotown and much more! The random worksheet generator gives you access to thousands of worksheets at just the push of a button. This is all you will need for teaching length to your pupils.
Objectives covered:
Measure, compare, add and subtract: lengths (m/cm/mm); mass (kg/g); volume/capacity (l/ml)
Convert between different units of measure [for example, kilometre to metre; hour to minute]
Convert between different units of metric measure [for example, kilometre and metre; centimetre and metre; centimetre and millimetre; gram and kilogram; litre and millilitre]

Everything you need to introduce circles to KS3, as well as challenging KS4 classes with arc length and area of sectors. These lessons are ready to go, so I hope it saves you some time and effort!
All lessons include a 5 a day starter, a progress tick sheet, differentiated questions WITH answers and a plenary.
Lesson 1 :
Circumference.
Whole lesson introducing parts of the circle and how to find the circumference of a circle. Challenges classes with finding perimeters or sectors as well as finding the diameter when given a circumference.
Lesson 2:
Area of circles.
Finding the area of a circle with functional extension questions and a printable differentiated worksheet to extend students.
Lesson 3:
Sectors of circles.
Extending how to find area of circles, by finding fractions of each circle. Shows examples of finding halves and quarters of circles to support understanding of how to find a fraction of the area of a full circle. Includes a functional pizza question to master the concept in real life situations!
Lesson 4:
Arc Length.
Using the same method used to find the area of sectors, to find arc length. Going through how we would find half and quarter of the circumference and questioning can be used to guide students in to how we would find a fifth of the circumference, eighth, etc and then onto more specific and difficult fractions of the circumference. Leads on from last lesson.
EXTRA!
I have added in an extra learning objective sheet that I made for a homework after the circle topic, to check understanding and progress. This worksheet can also be used in class.
The sheet includes a self assessment area for students.
I hope you like this bundle of circle lessons and resources and it saves you all some time and effort. If you do like it, or think I could do more, please rate and comment! Thank you!

This resource has 8 different worksheets, with answers, covering all different areas of fractions, including changing fractions from improper to proper fractions, and multiplying and dividing fractions.
There are differentiated worksheets on Fractions from working within to Mastery level in maths as well as a powerpoint with success criteria and word problems. There is opportunity for children to practice mental maths with fractions and then move onto word problems. For gifted children in maths, there is opportunity to work on 2 step problems. These activities have been used in a year 2 class to teach Maths for the new curriculum 2016.
This is a full lesson based on 80 mins but could easily be altered for the length of your lessons. It has a settling starter for when students enter the room this is a multiplication grid for this lesson followed by the learning objectives slide. There is then a starter of shading fractions recapping from the previous lesson then matching them up to link to equivalent fractions. There are then a selection of examples for equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions. This is followed by a slide of steps and examples to copy into their books. It includes a slide of differentiated questions and a card trail activity. The plenary is an exit ticket activity.
