A highly presented and detailed getting to know you/ meet your class pack of ice breaker activities. This resource is perfect to back to school and/or getting to know your new class or tutor group and helping them bond with one another. Included in the PPT are a total of 9 different activities designed for paired/group/whole class icebreaker and getting to know you activity. There is one ‘all about me’ activity included ideal as an independent learning activity or homework piece. A PowerPoint with 10 different, fun 'get to know you' games perfect for form time and welcoming new classes. All of the instructions and resources you need to have a great time getting to know your pupils are in this Power Point . I use these for 'Family Friday' in form time to build a sense of family and community amongst my Y8 registration group. However, these games are fun for all ages - even adults! The games are a mixture of whole class, group, pair and individual activities. Some have been adapted from Dr Spencer Kagan's 'Silly Sports and Goofy Games' book which is a fantastic resource and a great book to buy if you want to learn more of these. Enjoy!

What a fun activity for children to complete. Using mirrors, children can draw a selfie on the phone. This is a super tool to get to know your students, along with assessing their fine motor control and understanding of pictures. This can be used to encourage children to talk about themselves.

Sometimes it can be hard to break the ice with students. Ice breaker for new classes/form groups

Using subject pronouns and the verb ser, saying what people do, giving personal details such as phone numbers, and presenting people.

A good resources to help welcome a new tutor group in to your classroom and get to know them a little better. This worksheets asks students to fill in lot’s of information about themselves, which is useful at the start of the year. Ideal for new Year 7s or groups you are meeting for the first time.

A PowerPoint lesson with some relaxed activities to break the ice/ welcome a class back or meet a new class and get to know them, including: My favourite ___ is… Preferences, e.g. “cats or dogs?” Two truths and lie (with examples and explanation with pictures) Stand in order of… Split into… Complete with no need for further resources. Has typically taken around two 1.5 hour lesson periods to complete (with discussion around favourites etc.

A selection of activities to help tutor groups or classes get to know each other. There are a range of tasks and challenges which require students to talk to each other in order to complete. Some challenges are especially useful as ‘ice-breakers’ such as ‘Sorting ‘ and ‘Find someone who’ (see below). Others are more suitable when the students have begun to get to know each other such as ‘Discussion Points’ and ‘Dilemmas’ . Sorting activities – getting children moving and engaging with each other such as by first name or date of birth. ‘Find someone who ‘ – they have to find someone who can do a particular task or who likes something particular or who has (done) something. Discussion points - a set of questions to get small groups talking about issues (we have tried to avoid any controversial topics) Dilemmas – a different type of question for groups to discuss their response to certain situation (again we have tried to avoid any controversial topics) Ten miscellaneous challenges including ‘think outside the box, number association and ‘tell the time’ and an 'A-Z ’ of categories -which are suitable for use at either stage. A set of visual challenges that provide a different opportunity for group working: ‘spot the differences’ and ‘what is it’ (digitally altered images). The resources are provided on a power point presentation as well as in a word document contains the same activities- especially useful are the sheets to fill in for the ‘Find someone who…’ challenges.

A Bingo activity where the children need to walk around and find out information from their new classmates. It’s a good way to encourage them to talk to new pupils in their class as they have to find out the information from them. This activity is a good icebreaker for a new class. Suitable across KS2 and KS1. Also, adaptable.

GET TO KNOW YOU BINGO! This is a great first lesson back, icebreaker or team building activity. Print out this colorful bingo PDF file for your students and allow them to walk around the room finding students who fit the descriptions on the sheet. Once a student has found a match they can check off that box…who will be the first to find a full house!!

This is a back to school/New school year activity to promote talk and collaboration. The aim is that students go around and talk to other members of the class in order to find someone to fit each category. There are 2 differentiated versions - both editable.

A full day’s resources for the first day back, including informal assessment opportunities for writing, maths, speaking and reading: Morning starter (while children are registered): grammar, using an image to write sentences and identify word classes; Golden rules children decide as a class the rules for the year; Recount of holiday: writing assessment task; Maths treasure hunt which requires a little prep to hide all the tasks about the classroom/playground! Selfie biography task children get the chance to set goals and write about themselves. Reading task perhaps to precede a quiet reading time at the end of the day.
