Thanksgiving Multiplication Word ProblemsQuick View

Thanksgiving Multiplication Word Problems

Solving math word problems is more fun when there is a relevant theme, and these are timed for Thanksgiving. There are 20 word problems, predominantly focusing on multiplication skills with 1 digit x 1 digit, 2 x 1 digit and 2 x 2 digits. There is some addition included with critical thinking scenarios also. There are also blank task cards, where the children are asked to create their own word problem, solve it and then pass it on to someone else to find the answer. The problems require the children to solve the equations mathematically but also to be able to explain their answer, and so insists that there must be the ability to verbalise the concepts involved. This is a great way to have the children reflect upon their own learning and understanding of the concepts taught within these math strands and standards. This 10 page packet can simply be printed and put to great use as a review, homework practice or laminated and used as math centres task cards. An answer sheet is provided. For guided groups, I like to have the children glue the photocopied sheet into their notebooks with space to really reflect upon their answers and write their explanation below the problem. If you like these holiday activities, you will find many more holiday ideas for math and literacy on my blog. www.PYPtechingtools.com Happy Thanksgiving! Susan Powers

French Thanksgiving Question Cards - 30 French Thanksgiving Speaking Prompts

French Thanksgiving Question Cards - 30 French Thanksgiving Speaking Prompts Want your students to have some fun speaking French to each other in November using seasonal THANKSGIVING vocabulary? This NO PREP activity is a fun way to encourage your students to speak more and is a perfect resource to use in immersion, core or homeschool curriculums. You can use these cards after teaching specific vocabulary for Thanksgiving or as a fun interactive activity on a day when you want to just focus on speaking and reviewing in a different way. I've included 10 of my favorite ways to use these cards. All cards are visually stimulating and feature a circle to punch out in the upper left corner so that you can print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook the cards together with a ring. Using these cards this way makes it easy to pull them out year after year to use as NO PREP speaking activities. Included: 30 speaking prompt cards - color (4 per page to print and cut out) 30 speaking prompt cards - black and white PDF version to project and avoid printing (1 card per page to project) 10 different ways to use these cards Scoot game instructions Scoot recording sheet There are many ways you can use this set of cards: ➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions. ➤ Project the pdf file in class to work in group or with your whole class and avoid printing. ➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box. ➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements. ➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer. ➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards. ➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included. ➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move. ➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays. ➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

Thanksgiving - ESL Taboo Speaking Game

Thanksgiving - ESL Taboo Speaking Game - American English Playing TABOO is a great way to get ESL students to speak English and learn a lot of new vocabulary. This game is simple to modify and use with beginners and advanced students alike. In this THANKSGIVING version of the game there are 30 playing cards. I've included 2 fun ways to play this fun vocabulary game and both are explained in the instructions. This ESL Taboo game includes the following: How to play classic Taboo (beginner and advanced levels) 30 Taboo game cards to print, laminate, cut out and hook together with a ring PDF for projecting one card at a time for a whole class activity How to play 15 MINUTES MAX - an alternative version of the game 15 MINUTES MAX game board *In the upper left corner there's a spot for you to punch holes in the cards so that you can then attach them with a ring for no prep use every time. Be sure to laminate if at all possible. Object of the game: One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues. A Thanksgiving Problem and Solution Reading ActivityQuick View

A Thanksgiving Problem and Solution Reading Activity

Make literacy fun and engaging and seasonal! Three different reading comprehension activities in this printable, thematic reading comprehension packet are based on my best selling  Cause and Effect activities. With the fun theme of Thanksgiving, the children are able to focus on the comprehension skills of identifying problem and solution/cause and effect, together with creating their own possible solutions for already stated problems. Included: 24 problem and solution cards for two different identification games. The activity which involves the children creating their own solution to the problems stated has 20 cards with 10 problems. I like to copy them, laminate them and that way the children can write directly on the cards with dry erase pens. I have used this activity with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade guided reading groups and as literacy centers activities. They align with the CCSS ELA standards for reading for information for 4th and 5th grades and 3rd grades cause and effect. If you like this, you may also be interested in my other literacy activities. Thanksgiving Cause and Effect, The Best Challenging Game of Guess the Character Traits and many more in my store. Enjoy! Writing Process Prompts for The Thanksgiving Story by DaglieshQuick View

Writing Process Prompts for The Thanksgiving Story by Dagliesh

These four writing process prompts may help students develop the ability to write a few different types of paragraphs in response to the historical fiction picture book, The Thanksgiving Story by Alice Dagliesh. As students read The Thanksgiving Story, they learn of the many difficulties that the Pilgrims faced and better understand why they were so “thankful.”  The four prompts include a narrative letter about traveling on the Mayflower, an informational compare and contrast paragraph, an informational paragraph about how the Native American Indians helped the Pilgrims, and a convincing opinion paragraph as to why those Pilgrims should celebrate with a Thanksgiving feast. The Thanksgiving SongQuick View

The Thanksgiving Song

Here is a song I wrote this past Thanksgiving capturing the feelings one might have like being thankful for your family, friends, health, having a roof over you head, and food to eat. I figured since there aren't many songs out there about Thanksgiving, I would write one to commemorate this very important holiday.
