"The Importance of Being Earnest" (Oscar Wilde) - Advanced Teaching Bundle

This bundle includes all my handouts, worksheets and printables to teach “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde. The handouts are designed to be taught at a fairly high level, avoid looking flashy or patronising, and instead focus on enabling higher level cognitive, critical and thinking skills, as well as to hone close-reading skills in your students.

The bundle includes the following handouts (PDFs):

1 - Oscar Wilde Biography

2 - Reading Log (to accompany the reading of the play, 20 questions per Act)

3 - Historical Context

4 - Socio-Cultural Context Handout (Victorian concepts of ‘earnestness’ etc.)

5 - PowerPoint, handout and lesson materials to analyse types of comedy and the humour of the play.

6 - Structure Handout (“Earnest” is a Well-Made Play)

7 - Analysing Wilde’s Humour as Social Criticism

8 - Wilde’s use of Telling Names

9 - Handout analysing use of food as symbols and motifs, and as linked to the central themes of the play.

All worksheets are also available to buy separately on my TES-page, but the bundle will save you 55%, overall!

Enjoy, and please leave feedback!
