A whole English teaching sequence linked to the book Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick (Winner of the Branford Boase Award in 2001). Ideal for Year 4, Year 5 or Year 6 children.
There are 20 lessons planned in total , all with SMART Notebook screens, task sheets and header sheets to aid teaching and learning.
There are 101 SMART Notebook screens (in one file) for the teaching sequence and each lesson is clearly marked, along with details about which chapter should be read with each of the lessons.
(Update 22/10/2020 - In response to many requests, I have converted the SMART Notebook screens to Powerpoint, so there is also a 123 page Powerpoint presentation included for the teaching sequence.)
This planning includes lessons that will require the children to complete the following tasks:
- writing an informal letter
- writing a discussion text
- answering SATs style comprehension questions
- using a thesaurus
- writing a narrative
This book and planning link well with topic work on climate change, caring for the environment or any links to water. Even though the book is now 20 years old, it is still relevant to the concerns that are still important today about the dangers facing our planet, and will make them think and be exposed to some of these concerns.
