Complete Unit of Work (12/13 weeks) on reading, clapping and writing basic rhythms, reading and writing notes in the treble clef, and then moving onto performing simple pieces on the keyboard (sheet music in booklet) and composing their own melody using the skills they have learned.

Includes 2 assessment tasks with marking criteria graded 1 - 9:

  1. playing a 5-note melody on keyboards, with or without chords
  2. composing their own melody following step-by-step instructions, with or without chords
    Ends with a task where they create their own worksheet to demonstrate their knowledge of the whole topic.

Despite being a practical topic, the use of the student booklet gives opportunities for written teacher feedback (although I tend to give verbal feedback and then ask children to note down what I have said) and clear evidence of progress for Senior Leadership!
