This a resource containing three exercises based around the game of darts. The three activities each focus on a different Maths skills areas. The three activities are: 1). Drawing an accurate representation of a darts board (this involves accurate measurement of both angles and length and provides a challenge for all levels of pupils). 2). A mental maths exercise involving working out the scores that can be achieved with one dart. Two follow up questions test the pupils skills at data handling. 3). An investigation into different ways that out shots can be achieved.
I am lucky to have a very able set of year 5 pupils and during test week each term I set them challenges or investigations that are different from the norm. They actually enjoy test weeks now!!! I will be using this resource this term...so thank you :-) It's fun for the children to apply their learning in a variety of contexts and I know that darts will be new to many. Compass work will also be new for all the children so its a great opportunity to learn new skills too.
Fab! Thank you so much for sharing, I look forward to doing this with my year 8s. I have a magnetic dart board to get them a little more hands on with the project too. May be a clip of darts to get them interested at the beginning of the lesson?
