Exploring expressive sounds through the story of Gelert
This activity provides opportunities for composition, using the popular story of Gelert as a stimulus. The activity teaches pupils how sounds of differing timbres may be used critically and selectively, and at differing tempos, to compose music that will enhance the telling of a story. According to the teacher's focus or the pupils&' abilities, consideration might also be made of pitch, duration and dynamics of the sounds created. Pupils are expected to discuss the suitability of selected sounds, within the class.
