Schools now have a statutory duty to ensure all pupils in year 8 to year 13 are provided with independent and impartial careers guidance, and governors are responsible for ensuring this duty is met. However, the government has also produced guidance which promotes the need for schools to inspire young people regarding their future careers. Research shows that careers education is most effective when delivered strategically and governors have a key role in making this a priority for their school.
