Finding half of a fraction. The approach is through investigations. The teacher first presents the basics of fractions file, the filled one. The teacher asks pupils to suggest half of a particular fractions but only to say it in colour. The pupils will be provided with the clear fraction sheet to fill the half of each fraction. The pupils will then be asked their conclusion as to how to find half of a fraction. For example, the teacher may ask what is half of three quarters (3/4) or 1/2 of 5/7

Expectation: pupils to discover that doubling the bottom number (denominator) gives half of the fractions.

For example, 1/2 of 7/9 = 7/18

Note to the teacher: A chief inspectors of schools was once asked what half of three quarters is, but he had difficulty answering it.
