A whole lesson in a power point presentation which looks at the properties of covalent bonds to include, why substances with a simple molecular structures have low melting and boiling points and how these increase with increasing relative molecular mass; why substances with giant covalent structures have high melting and boiling points and how the structures of diamond, graphite and C60 fullerene influence their physical properties, including electrical conductivity and hardness.
There is plenty of opportunity for students to research and analyse data on certain covalent substances to build up a picture of covalent properties. There is also an exam question with mark scheme.
