Atlas Mapping Tasks – British Isles Mapping Task and South America Mapping Task – Including a base map and task sheet for each place - KS3 Geography – Exploring Places

Includes both a PDF version and editable Word Document version.

An activity designed to allow pupils the opportunity to build upon their World knowledge as well as consolidate their Atlas skills.

These resources direct pupils to use an Atlas (book or online) to map as many of the key locations such as country names, capital cities, mountains and rivers onto the base maps included (one for the British Isles and one for the continent of South America). Pupils are provided with a ‘checklist’ of what to map and are encouraged to design their own key to when presenting this information.

I have found these resources useful with KS3 Geography pupils as an introductory task when teaching about places within the UK and South America, to help pupils widen their World knowledge and identification of features of physical geography. I have used these resources both as an independent home learning activity and as a classroom activity.

Adaptable versions are included in this download enabling you to alter to suit your school’s geography curriculum or to cater to the needs of your teaching groups.
