Organizing Writing– Playlist and Teaching Notes
In this playlist, students explore standard W.8.2.A. They learn how to organize their writing by introducing the topic of an essay, previewing what is to follow, organize ideas, concepts, and information into broader categories, and use formatting, graphics, and multimedia to aid comprehensions. Students look at example mini-outlines and example paragraphs and are guided through the process of organizing the ideas and details into a coherent structure. Students apply what they learned by creating a news report about a topic of interest. Students also have the option to view instructional videos and complete practice quizzes or activities.

The playlist includes:
• Link to one practice quiz or activity
• Links to four instructional videos or texts
• Definitions of key terms, such as graphics and multimedia

Accompanying Teaching Notes include:
• Classroom activities and a writing prompt
• Links to additional resources, such as how to integrate multimedia into classroom writing projects
