Reading Interest Inventory
Use this Reading Interest Inventory to get to know your readers at the beginning of the year! Students fill out the inventory (on their own or with help), and then you can use this informal assessment during early reading conferences to discuss their interests and preferences. The inventory asks them what kinds of books, authors, and genres they enjoy, as well as how they like to read.

This inventory is great for beginning readers and EL students, as it has picture cues to help them with their selections.

Students love going back at the end of the year to look at their preferences to see how they grew as a reader.

TIP: Copy it in black and white, but project a color version onto the screen to help save on copying/printing costs. :)
