In my school, (Year 5 and 6) we send homework each night Monday - Thursday, so it is designed to be printed A4 and given out on the Monday at the end of the lesson. Flip- chart moves through stages of multiplication as repeated addition and then an array. Can be made more practical (fun) by having a collection of small pairs of socks and lots of real life examples of an array. Also children love the chocolate challenge! A Japanese theme game. The children play the game which leads on to - Investigating the frequency score of 2 dice. (What are the best numbers to choose to help you win the game next time?) Lessons include find the odd one out starter activities, success criteria and worksheets. There are also questions to encourage the children’s mathematical thinking. My class find it fun to make up a quick Sumo dance… where they bow to each other before and after each game.
