A cinematic and immersive KS3 French Halloween escape room set inside the mysterious Hôtel Éphémère, which appears in Paris only on Halloween night.

Students enter the hotel and get locked inside. To escape before midnight, they must explore the hotel to find a mysterious key.

What’s included

• A Halloween word search to introduce the key vocabulary students will need in the escape room
• A digital Halloween escape room with several themed areas:
 ○ The reception: match up using key Halloween vocabulary
 ○ The library: three gap-fill tasks focused on phonics and sound patterns
 ○ The dining room: reading, numeracy and deduction questions with a spooky menu
 ○ The bedroom: choose between two pathways according to the group’s level
  ▪ Suite citrouille: adjective agreement, designed primarily for Year 7
  ▪ Suite spectrale: prepositions, designed primarily for Year 9
  ▪ Note: for Year 8, teachers can choose the pathway that best suits their preferred grammar focus or their group’s ability.
 ○ The cellar: solve a three-part riddle to identify the correct key and escape the hotel
 ○ A 12-word hangman extension revising vocabulary from the opening word search
• Optional support sheets for the library and bedroom tasks, including differentiated support for Years 7 and 9
• A short Year 9 vocabulary list with all the prepositions used in the Suite spectrale and key furniture vocabulary
• Teacher access slides with QR code and link to the escape room (PDF and editable PPTX)
• A 2-page teacher guidance document explaining the structure, pathway choice and optional support
• Printable resources provided in non-editable colour and black-and-white PDF versions

Designed for KS3 French (Years 7–9). The two bedroom pathways allow teachers to adapt the grammar focus to their group, while the shared reception, library, dining room and cellar tasks create one continuous adventure.

Most classes should complete the escape room itself in around 30–40 minutes. With the opening word search, the full activity is designed to fill around 1 hour, with the optional hangman available as an extension for early finishers.

To make the most of this game, we recommend students play individually or in pairs on a computer, but it can also be projected on a board and played as a class.

I hope you and your students enjoy it!
