AQA Specification - Students should study religious teachings, and religious, philosophical and ethical arguments, relating to the issues that follow, and their impact and influence in the modern world.

Pupils will be considering whether war is ever a positive thing. They will explore Christian teachings on conflict and evaluate whether war is ever justifiable in Christian teachings.

At the end of this unit, most pupils will: Explain clearly the key concepts of Just war, terrorism, justice, forgiveness and pacifism and explain some connections between them. Be able to contextualise these concepts within the life of Jesus, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Luther King Jr and events in the world today. Explain their own response to these issues and evaluate the significance of these concepts for themselves and society as a whole.

Students can give a detailed explanation of a range of concepts in the unit. They can accurately contextualise these within the lives of individuals such as Jesus, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, etc. They can explain links between the concepts. They can evaluate coherently the value of the concepts to a believer, themselves and society as a whole.
