I wrote the 'characters' document on yellowed paper as diary entries and gave one to each table I gave them pictures appropriate to each diary entry and some props, such as a Victorian boy's car, a slate pand chalk, etc. The children worked in pairs to figure out as much as they could about the characters in relation to Victorian lifestyles. One person from each table to came out for a multiple hotseat activity, where the characters discussed their opinions and the rest of the class questioned them to find out more.
