A simple and chunked lesson that steadily builds on pupils' skills to develop their confidence - particularly well suited to lower ability students. All resources are differentiated with different levels of challenge for pupils to choose from and provide them with extra ownership over their learning. Whole class discussions and readings can take place within this lesson to provide checks on learning whilst there is also a focus on modelling to ensure pupils are provided with some additional support for more difficult tasks like selecting and retrieving appropriate quotations.
I have made and laminated these with the noun, verb, adverb, adjective, pronoun and punctuation on different coloured pieces of paper.
I then give the group or pair a prompt card and model building a sentence, and gradually making it more complex.
I use these with KS3 SEN - but this would also be appropriate with other year groups.
