Discover free, curriculum-friendly resources from the British Red Cross that help children and young people develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to respond in an emergency

Teaching First Aid has never been more vital across the UK; the skills young people can learn from quality First Aid education can develop the knowledge, confidence and willingness to act when someone needs help. However, many schools face the challenge of finding resources that are both engaging and easy to use.

To help with this, we’ve teamed up with the British Red Cross to highlight a comprehensive suite of free First Aid teaching resources. Designed for educators covering primary and secondary settings, the offer also includes whole-school approaches and CPD opportunities for staff.

Primary First Aid Champions

First Aid Champions is a free interactive learning website available to all schools in the UK created to teach the skills children and young people need to save a life. The primary pathway introduces children aged 5 - 11 to essential First Aid knowledge through a combination of videos, interactive activities, quizzes and PowerPoint presentations. Alongside practical skills, pupils also explore themes of kindness and discover ways to share what they have learned with others.

Secondary First Aid Champions

The secondary pathway of First Aid Champions builds on earlier learning by introducing more advanced topics and realistic scenarios. Covering life-saving skills such as chest compressions, the use of defibrillators and responding to heavy bleeding, it helps young people aged 11 – 18 to develop practical knowledge they can apply in an emergency. Learners practice First Aid skills through simple, memorable steps, helping them build the confidence to act when it matters most.

Continuing Professional Development in First Aid

Earlier this year, the British Red Cross launched Humankind, a free CPD programme featuring courses for educators of young people, offering training, teaching resources and support on teaching vital humanitarian and life skills topics.  Included in this programme is Teaching First Aid, which explores how to teach First Aid to young people using the British Red Cross's Everyday First Aid approach alongside free, medically approved, educationally robust resources.
