Understanding Autism, disability and difference

Understanding Autism, disability and difference

This powerpoint guides users through a lesson to help young children understand that people have different needs and how it is right and fair to accommodate them. Ideal for exploring diversity, disability, autism and the paralympics. One of the main characters features Stephen Wiltshire (the human camera) as child. It would be a valuable activity to watch videos of him on youtube . This would help explore that we all have different strengths and weaknesses. This resource was developed by Spectrum Savvy to help build peer relationships and tolerance where autistic learners were being misunderstood in mainstream. The Tale of Prince Don

The Tale of Prince Don

This is a children’s book for all ages. A tale that raises moral questions about political leadership. The ancient welsh saying from Welsh mythology, the Mabinogion says ¨a fo ben bid bont¨, which translates to ¨ He would be leader, let him be a bridge¨. The moral tale teaches our future leaders to build bridges and not walls. A humorous tale at times, which raises serious questions about humanity and our consideration to all people on earth. ¨Let he who would be a leader build a bridge and not a wall!¨ Links to Political Studies, Migration, Citizenship and RS Moral Philosophy. This resource can be used as a stimuli to start a discussion. Accessible to all ages and second language learners. Illustrated by the author.

Fantastically Great Women by Kate Pankhurst

Dear Teachers, Librarians, World-changers and History-makers, February 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the Peoples Act, which enabled women to vote for the FIRST time in history in the UK. In fact, 2018 is a big year for women’s voices; there will be a series of events, exhibitions and educational programmes happening across the UK to celebrate the suffragette movement. There’s never been a better time to get your class involved … And that’s where we come in. We’ve published a brand new picture book in the ‘Fantastically Great Women’ series by Kate Pankhurst (descendent of Emmeline Pankhurst herself) – and it’s sure to get kids engaged with stories of extraordinary women from around the globe. It’s called Fantastically Great Women Who Made History and it’s the follow-up title to the bestselling Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World. The lessons in this pack serve as an introduction to the themes in the books, matched to National Curriculum objectives and providing material for five PSHE lessons – adaptable for pupils from KS1 to KS3. The final outcome is for your pupils to unleash their own voices, creating unique messages of inspiration for the world. It’s time for your students to write their own stories – how will they change the course of history? We can’t wait to find out!
