Templates for Marking Spellings by their Syllables

Templates for Marking Spellings by their Syllables

Ten spellings may consist of thirty syllables and it is much more rewarding to gain 15/30 than 1/10. Not only is this great to boost confidence but students soon appreciate the value of learning their prefixes and suffixes. Students can see the same mistakes in different words. Syllables are small manageable chunks to learn, once learned they are transferable into hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of words. These are large font to make laminated dry wipes. Alternatively I print two pages onto A4 landscape, to go into the Lexicology A5 workbooks. ESOL resources for adjectives. Word bank, presentations, word-searches.

ESOL resources for adjectives. Word bank, presentations, word-searches.

Assorted resources for teaching and learning adjectives in English. Designed for ESOL, but equally useful for primary or secondary support. A word bank of the most common adjectives. We used this by cutting out the words, and matching opposites, or antonyms. A slide show of the same words, just for display, or for asking learners to provide synonyms and antonyms. Works well on an iPad for sharing in pairs. Plus another version of the same words with additional slides showing most common antonyms, as found in Roget’s Thesaurus. Finally a pair of rather big word searches. Please make smaller ones (easy to find software online) if these prove too big.

Initial Sounds Bundle

Initial Sounds Bundle

Here is a Bundle to help children master their “D,L,S and T” sounds There are a selection of cards to print and laminate for each sound with a game board to practice saying the words. I have popped a few basic record sheets in so that you can keep track of progress. Also a label page as I like to make them into little files and it helps to organise them into plastic folders with resealable bags. They are linked to my Colourful Semantic resources which I used to expand their learning. It takes a bit of time to make each pack up, but once they are done they last. Let me know if you would like any additions to these packs or any other packs and I will try and make them up.

BABA Black Sheep

BABA Black Sheep

Ba Ba Black Sheep is the first in the series of teaching resources from my own Rhymes and Crafts collection. Popular rhymes combined with enjoyable activities will make learning an enjoyable experience for young learners. Whether you are a parent or teacher, use these lesson plans to teach new or recycled vocabulary to young learners. A fun and creative craft activity is included and can be used to decorate classroom walls. The activities come in two versions; black and white and colour. Teachers adore those cute colored graphics, but black and white ones are more useful when it comes to printing. Project the colored pages on a screen and print out the same activity in black and white. Enjoy!

Building up/scaffolding writing. Modelling Creative writing Key Stage 2 Year 3 Year 4 grammar.

Building up/scaffolding writing. Modelling Creative writing Key Stage 2 Year 3 Year 4 grammar.

Hi, This resource is great for whole lessons. You can model writing a sustained piece and structure how to add depth and creativity to a paragraph/short/long piece of writing. I’ve played around with how I use this presentation, here are some suggestions, and if you find better ways then please share your good practice. 1. Print slides and allow children to use as prompts for writing about a stimulus. 2. Show children stimulus and then do some talk for writing, than ask them to write sentence/paragraph 1 and then share with class. Repeat process for all 6 sentence types. 3. Print the slides and cut the strips up. Allow children to mix and match to create different structures. I really hope that this resource is useful. Many thanks

Comparative and Superlative Adjectives with -y - Word Sorts

Comparative and Superlative Adjectives with -y - Word Sorts

Word sorts are highly effective in teaching literacy to young students by helping them grasp the meanings and relationships of words. Students use cards with printed words on them and sort them into groups. Sorting pictures gives students a stronger oral language base than looking at the sounds in isolation on a worksheet. They deal with words at a visual level, so they can analyze the speech sounds that go with the pictures. They have a phonological understanding they don't get when just looking at written words and letter combinations. So, get your kids reading better than ever. A Year of Bento - Lunchbox Photos for Educational Use

A Year of Bento - Lunchbox Photos for Educational Use

In Japan there is a tradition that the mothers of children of kindergarten age provide their children with a lunchbox two or three times a week to take with them to school. Usually, these are made early in the morning along with breakfast. A lot of effort goes into making a tasty, nutritious and visually appealing meal that will be put into a small lunchbox called a ‘bento’, which is then wrapped in a colorful cloth napkin. The images in this pack can be used with classes of all ages and backgrounds, and in different ways according to the teacher’s skills and inclinations. Following is a list of the contents and some possible uses. 1. A set of 50 high quality JPEG images that can be printed out for use in games and tasks of many kinds. 2. A 14 page PDF document of the same images grouped into sets of 4 that can be used for bingo, matching or comparison type games. 3. A Powerpoint 14 slide presentation of the same 4 grouped images for demonstration purposes, or classroom quizzes. There are sample questions in the notes section of each slide, which are aimed at kindergarten/elementary level, but can be altered to suit the level of the class. 4. A Keynote presentation for Mac or iPad users, which contains the same 14 slides and information as the Powerpoint. All the images in this pack are copyrighted for personal and educational use.

Night Time Presentation and Visual Story Prompts, Fun Story and 31 Activities

I have collected together my night time resources to make a lovely lesson starting with a night time story, followed by things we see in the night and a night time writing prompt. I have also included a teacher guide to show teachers how to use these Photo Flash cards in 31 different teaching activities in the classroom. These activities are easy to arrange, lots of fun and will improve your students' vocabulary and memory skills. You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different locations being shown in each of the images. You could print off and laminate the images to make an interesting, eye-catching set of story prompts. The students could also take five of the laminated images and create them into a story . The images could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.
