Kindness Assembly

Kindness Assembly

This assembly is based around a series of videos to show how one persons act of kindness can spread from person to person. As pupils enter, 'Money Money Money' is playing by ABBA (embedded). Pupils are encouraged to reflect upon what they would do if they won the lottery. All clips are embedded and play automatically. 1. Clip of homeless man who wins the lottery. This man has noting yet wishes to share his money. 2. Second clip shows how though this act of generosity from the first video; it inspired others to create fundraising page for this man. The money raised was used to buy him a flat which enabled him to get a job. 3. In the third clip the man is no longer homeless and has a job. He goes out to help a homeless man through sharing his own money now to grant this new homeless person a chance at success. Pupils reflect upon how one simple act of kindness can spread from person to person. Pupils can reflect how they can be kind that week in school to help others . Finishes with a prayer.

The Jar of Life Assembly

The Jar of Life Assembly

This Assembly is designed to enable students to reflect upon the priorities in their life. Song, 'Time of your Life', plays as students enter (embedded). As students wait for everyone to enter they can silently reflect upon how the images displayed are connected. All will be referred to in the assembly. Begin with asking a pupil to define the word 'priority' before demonstrating the 'Jar of Life'. Required: 1. Large stones / golf balls 2. 2 empty jars / glass bowls 3. Pebbles 4. Sand / Pilau rice 5. Coffee / Water The Jar = Your life The Large Stones = the important things e.g. Family, Friends, Health, Love. Education. The pebbles = Less important things e.g. Car, House, Holidays, Designer Clothes. The Sand = Even less impornat things e.g. X-box, Phone, Facebook, Snap chat, Instagram, TV. Further instructions are attached (see video). Pupils then reflect upon the included embedded video, 'Your Life in Jelly Beans' which shows how much of your life is spent sleeping / eating / commuting etc and how many days left this leaves you with. Question pupils on what their 'big rocks' are and why they need to prioritize a bit more in their lives. Finish with a prayer and hand out reflection sheet for pupils to go away and reflect upon or complete as a Tutor activity later on.

Assembly - Anti-Bullying, Think Before You Post

Assembly - Anti-Bullying, Think Before You Post

This assembly focusses on anti-bullying but more specifically cyber bullying. The opening part of the assembly defines bullying and also explains the different types of bullying providing examples of each in schools. These are verbal, social and physical bullying. The next section of the assembly uses a video called 'In Real Life' which is a social experiment that shows what happens when online bullying is taken offline. This is a very cutting video where people say some quite horrific to people in the public. The things that the people are saying are quotes taken from other people's social media. The moral of the video is that a lot of people say things online that they would never dream to say to someone face to face. This is followed by some key facts and figures about cyber bullying and then some general tips with the tag Think Before YOU Post. The final section of this assembly shows how students can report bullying at my school. This will need to be amended for each individual school.

Christmas assembly - The birth of Jesus - Refugees theme

Christmas assembly - The birth of Jesus - Refugees theme

This is a plan for a Christmas assembly on the birth of Jesus, with a focus on journeys and refugees. There is an attached PowerPoint with the story and relevant facts for the assembly. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children's lives. So this assembly involves some volunteers acting out the story and a discussion about how refugees make similar journeys to Mary and Joseph. There is a lot of opportunity for children to think about their own experiences, current events and to feedback. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with. Please note: The PowerPoint is also available separately from the assembly from Blossoming Minds Teaching Resources.
