Comprehension Task - FICTION Year 5 - A New Friend

This resource is one of a series of English tasks, with 'short answer' questions, written in a similar style to the SATs Reading Test papers. It comprises a text and questions to assess comprehension - ideal for revision, either as a classroom resource or as a homework task. The text and questions are available in two formats: - PDF (with a separate answer sheet to download); - interactive (self-marking). The interactive version has options to change the size of text and the background colour to make reading easier. The answer format is multiple choice and includes: justifying inferences with evidence from the text; identifying language used for effect; identifying main ideas; giving the meaning of words in context. The comprehension series includes both fiction (covering a variety of genres) and non-fiction. The tasks are set at 3 levels, aimed at either Year 4 pupils, Year 5 pupils, or Year 6 pupils. This specific text is fiction (contemporary) and levelled for Year 5 pupils.
