What is the Date? (Game for French / Spanish / German / Italian / Other Languages)

What is the Date? (Game for French / Spanish / German / Italian / Other Languages)

10 Four in a Row game boards for practising saying the date in French, Spanish, German, Italian and lots of other languages. I originally created this to help pupils answer the French question 'Quelle est la date?' but there is no reference to French on the boards so they can be used for other languages. Pupils will practise calendar vocabulary - months, days of the week and numbers to thirty-one.Includes:5 boards with the month and date5 further boards with the month, date and dayA fun language learning activity which is ideal for a starter, early finisher task, main lesson consolidation work or as part of a bank of revision activities. Print in either A3 or A4 and laminate for regular use. Individuals or pairs play against each other, taking it in turns to roll a dice before choosing a date in the correct column (columns are labelled 1-6) to say in the target language. If correct, they could put their symbol or initial over it in a wipeable pen or cover it with a counter of a different colour to their opponent. The first player/team to get 4 in a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally is the winner. With 10 boards in total, they can swap with other pairs/groups when finished to have another game.I hope your pupils enjoy playing this if you choose to buy it. I would be so grateful for a review if you get a spare moment. Many thanks. If teaching French, you might be interested in some of my other resources (games, worksheets, presentations, activities, puzzles) for that language. Tourist Bureau-City Tour Project

Tourist Bureau-City Tour Project

Students of foreign language will work in groups to create a four-day city tour. They will choose a city, use the internet to gather current information, write to a city tourist bureau, call ADAC, find overnight and restaurant accomodations, create a tour poster and mini-souvenirs, and finally present (in the target language) their tour at a city tour festival. I created the project for German second year students, but it could be adapted to any foreign language, grade level, or country (rather than city) focus.

Months: German Vocabulary Card Sort

Months: German Vocabulary Card Sort

This is a card sort to help students learn the months (12 words in total). This would be a useful task with younger groups or low ability groups. There are three separate files, depending on how you want to present the task.- The 'teacher copy' shows a grid with all items already matched. - The 'student version' is a random layout, print this out and give to students. They can then cut out the items and match them, or stick them into their workbooks.- The 'quick cut' is designed so that you can produce 10 packs of cards quickly and easily using a guillotine. Each page has the same card 10 times over. This allows you to remove words that may not be suitable or needed. Alternatively you can print the same page twice double-sided to produce flash cards.

Snakes and ladders on dates in Mandarin Chinese

Snakes and ladders on dates in Mandarin Chinese

This game is designed for learners in their first year of learning Mandarin Chinese or it can be used in any language under study when learning dates!!Rules of the game: This game would be ideal for up to six players or two teams of students and played with two dice. 1. Whatever player or team rolls the highest number on the dice can move first.2. After each player or team moves according to the number shown on the dice must say the date to whatever place they land on, on the board. If they say the date correctly in Chinese, they can move on their next go. If they say the date incorrectly or don't know how to say it, they miss their next turn.3. If a player or team land on a green square, it is a 'lucky square' and they don't have to say that date. If a player lands on his/her birthday or a member of the team's birthday, they don't have to say the date.4. If a player or team lands on a ladder, they move down the board accordingly or if they land on a snake, they move up the board accordingly.5. If a player or a team member rolls a double they can take another go, only provided they say the date correctly.6. The first player or team to reach the end of the year, wins the game!
