GERMAN - EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, CAPITALS, FLAGS DISPLAY 72 POSTERS PACK - AUF DEUTSCH!

GERMAN - EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, CAPITALS, FLAGS DISPLAY 72 POSTERS PACK - AUF DEUTSCH!

CREATE AN INSTANT AND COMPREHENSIVE INTRODUCTION TO EUROPE IN YOUR CLASSROOM - IN GERMAN!Brighten up your classroom with this set of 72 posters in GERMAN showing European countries, capital cities and flags. The posters give your learning environment a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting GERMAN as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of EUROPEAN GEOGRAPHY. I’ve included a range of islands, such as the FAROE ISLANDS, to extend students’ knowledge of EUROPE a little further, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example ARMENIA, that are often classed as belonging either to EUROPE or to ASIA. I’ve also included two posters for some countries, such as GERMANY, officially known as BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND - you can choose either the more frequently-used ‘DEUTSCHLAND’ or the ’BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND’ to display. The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity! They're ideal for the annual EUROPE DAY celebration, and THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES, as well as an all year round display. Laminate for longevity - you'll be able to display your EUROPA posters for years to come!Have a look at my other sets of continents display posters in GERMAN when you get chance! The resource consists of a single, non-editable file: the other files you can see are preview images to give you an idea of what the posters look like as a display. Supertrumpf Karten - personal descriptions

Supertrumpf Karten - personal descriptions

This activity can be used either as a homework or class activity. I have used it as the first assessment for my German class.Pupils are required to choose 3 celebrities/ famous characters from the reading cards and create a top trumps style card for each of them. A list of what needs to be included and the point system can be found on the instructions sheet. After they made the cards they need to write a text about one of the celebrities in the third person.I have used the activity as a reading and writing assessment and to check the pupils' grammatical understanding when having to change a text from the first to the third person. It could also be extended to a speaking exercise afterwards, when pupils have to play top trumps with their own cards. The feedback sheet gives checks for content, language and comprehension and can also be used as a check list for pupils.

German: Weather, Countries and Holidays: revision activities and games

German: Weather, Countries and Holidays: revision activities and games

This are the activities from a lesson I taught on revising the names of countries, weather phrases and holidays. The powerpoint is a brief revision outline and includes a reminder about the correct use of prepositions as well as a class points game. Students generally love this game: divide the class into two or three teams and each team takes a turn in giving a weather phrase in German. They then clink on the symbol which disappears to reveal the points behind it. This can be differentiated (e.g. double the points if a whole sentence / including the name of a country / different tense is used). Also a match up activity to revise weather phrases - two sets of translations included as I had two students up at the board playing against each other - first to match correctly. The large names of the countries on the next document can be printed onto coloured card or laminated and then students come to the board and use bluetak to stick the name on to the correct country - display the blank outline map which is contained on the powerpoint. Alternatively print the blank map for students to label in German. There is also a word loop which can be used a number of ways. One way is simply to print and cut out for each student / pair / group to put together (like dominoes, cut along each row so each domino has a German and English phrase which don't match). Students will then end up with a circle of 'dominoes' with each German phrase next to the correct English translation. Can also be used as a word loop - give each student a domino and they read out the German. The student who has the English translation has to then read out the English. They then read their German phrase and it continues until back to the beginning. Great for listening and attention skills!

German Cartoon Character 'Speed Dating' Speaking and Listening Activity (personal information)

German Cartoon Character 'Speed Dating' Speaking and Listening Activity (personal information)

These are cards which can be cut up and laminated to use for a speed dating style speaking and listening activity. Each student is given a card and takes on the role of that character. Students work in pairs and have two or three minutes together before moving on to pair up with another student. Students ask each other questions to find out the information on their partner's card (Wie heisst du? Wie alt bit du? Wann hast du Geburtstag? Wo wohnst du?). Once both students have asked and answered questions they can share their cards to check that the listener heard / noted the correct information. Students have really enjoyed doing this activity and it is a great way to improve confidence in speaking and listening. The cards can also then be distributed around the class for students to write out a 'character profile'.
