Fluency in Number Work - No Calculator

Fluency in Number Work - No Calculator

The reformed GCSE Mathematics (9-1) curriculum demands from students a higher degree of fluency in number work. This worksheet is aimed at showing students a variety of skills to evaluate numerical expressions more effectively and to solve multi-step number work problems more fluently. This worksheet has a total of 100 questions (80 numerical expressions and 20 number problems), involving the four operations, fractions, decimal numbers, percentages, indices, surds, standard form, multiplication factors, proportion, ratio, percentage change, simple interest and compound interest. Most of these questions can be solved in different ways and students should try to pick methods which will reduce the risk of making mistakes. Perhaps the answers accompanying this worksheet do not always show the quickest method, but they have been written with the emphasis on accuracy, trying to show students how to get the answers without making calculation errors. This worksheet is excellent revision for all students sitting the non-calculator paper of the new GCSE Mathematics examination.

Half lesson, one sheet test on Indices and surds

Half lesson, one sheet test on Indices and surds

I have written a number of mini tests to fit perfectly on to one sheet of A4 (I actually print them 2 to a page so A5!). These tests can be completed and peer marked in the same lesson and will be reused by you many many times over the years. Really easy to mark due to the layout of the test paper and the markschemes included. This tests all types of Indices and Surds questions that can be found in the GCSE. Ideal for finishing the Laws of Indices and Surds chapter. I use it for a pretest before the official chapter test.
