New GCSE: AOS1 The Coronation Anthems and Oratorios of Handel (AQA)

New GCSE: AOS1 The Coronation Anthems and Oratorios of Handel (AQA)

This is the powerpoint and worksheets I have used to teach my students about the Coronation Anthems and Oratorios of Handel. I also used this topic to teach them about the circle of fifths, modulations, structure, cadences, voices etc. There is therefore quite alot in addition to just the Handel stuff. There are listening examples either embedded or linked in the PowerPoint and a listening test with answers for the end of the unit.

KEYBOARD / TUNED PERCUSSION | Blues Music

KEYBOARD / TUNED PERCUSSION | Blues Music

I have done this with KS2 (years 3 + 4) on glockenspiel and it has gone down really well. I have used something similar with year 8 pupils (also including opportunities for ukulele, drums, guitar, bass and composition) but this is a good starting point for pupils before they get to high school. Progress is set out over 4 lessons, looking at the 12 bar blues, chords (broken) / walking bass lines, Blues melodies, flat/sharp notes and improvisation. There is a song that I came up with that pupils love to sing that works nicely with getting them to improvise in between too. Those that excel can also be pushed using the 'Blues Bass & Melodies' sheet to help expand their vocabulary for improvisation.Font: Century Gothic

SAMBA | Maracatu (4 Lessons, with differentiated rhythms)

SAMBA | Maracatu (4 Lessons, with differentiated rhythms)

I have used this with year 3 but found it best with year 4 and up. Prior knowledge of reading rhythms helps but if this is not the case, it will probably take about 6 weeks. Samba Maracatu is an early type of Samba music. It's great for teaching pupils about clavé rhythms and the Maracatu rhythm itself is quite unique to the style. This is only a short topic (I usually do it for 3 weeks - easy, medium, then hard rhythms), however, with some of the rhythms being quite difficult you may want to pad it out or incorporate other elements like singing. The Powerpoint is set out so that you can drag & drop the elements you want and move them around to make a lesson from them. This is not a scheme of work.Font: Amatic SC (see my other resources for the font pack)

Mary's Music Class-an Interactive Music Game focusing on Instrument identification and families

Mary's Music Class-an Interactive Music Game focusing on Instrument identification and families

Mary's Music Class is an interactive game to help students learn about musical instruments and their families and and provide teachers an opportunity to assess students in the process. Students are given a brief introduction to the families of musical instruments and then are asked to name and sort each instrument into the right family. Also, Mary has lost her lesson plans and which gives students a second turn if they find a missing page! There is over 40 instruments in this game, giving students at least one turn each. This game can be projected for a whole group to play or played on a tablet for individual or small group work. It is a great way to integrate technology into the classroom and differentiate instruction. This set is dedicated to my mom, who was a music and elementary school teacher. Hope your students enjoy it as much as mine do!If you and your students enjoy this product there are more in my store like it and many more to come!

GCSE AQA - The Beatles Sgt Peppers Analysis Sheets

GCSE AQA - The Beatles Sgt Peppers Analysis Sheets

HiI have used these sheets to help pupils analyse the three set works in the AQA Music syllabus for Popular Music.I saw the idea being used in an English lesson where pupils were analysing poetry. They would read the poem and identify key devices and write them on a sheet similar to this. They would then use the sheet to construct answersI have used this technique withn my own pupils when analysing the songs. It helps scaffold the areas they need to analyse (melody, harmony, rhythm etc)I would print the blank sheet in A3 and give this to pupils. They would then use scores, internet and other classmates to fill it in with interesting points. I have included a word document so that they can be edited as I tend to add questions and other points for differentiation. We would then discuss the music as a class and fill in any gaps that are missing (Using the teacher sheet)I would then allow pupils to use the sheets to construct extended answers which is a requirement in the exam. I would use questions such as "Describe the harmony and melody of Little Help from My Friends" "Explain how the use of technology influence Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" etc. Pupils can then develop their own questions for others and can be used as a revision aid.You may use them as you pleaseI have also included a presentation on technology in the studio and a starter/comprehension activityThanksMike
