GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE 2

GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE 2

These German speaking practice cards are really popular with my students. There are 50 questions, with 50 suggested responses, and students can work their way through them at their own pace. I’ve found them to be very successful in terms of helping my students develop the confidence to speak German, which many try to avoid at all costs! As they become more proficient and confident, they can move away from the suggested questions and answers, and begin to formulate their own, using the existing cards as a reference frame - I give them a card template for this, and I’ve included one here too. There are quite a few games students can play, and I’ve described some of my most popular. I always lamina te my cards - they last for years, and are definitely easier to work with in the classooom. The language is more Intermediate German, and definitely with a real cultural flavour. I give my students regular opportunities to work with the cards, and they really enjoy working independently. I’ve written all the questions and answers in the reference booklet - we use this for a longer-term reading and writing reference resource too. This resource has two wo non-editable files in a zipped format. I’d be grateful if you would follow my TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright, and for the purchaser’s use only - if your colleagues in the department want to use the resource, please purchase a whole-school license. Colleagues and/or friends further afield must make their own purchase. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß IN DER DEUTSCHSTUNDE!

Herzlichst, Cindy Khne ❤️ About me ❤️ Hi there 👋🏼! I´m Cindy from Leipzig, Germany. I have been a German and English teacher for more than 12 years now. And I love coffee breaks ☕️. Coffee is just great. Over the years I have realized how much my students benefit most from lessons where THEY are the leaders, where THEY are encouraged to be proactive and learn from each other. Handing over the reins to my students doesn’t make me weaker as a teacher. It makes them responsible for their own learning and is highly motivating. I don’t want my students to be sailors. I want them to be CAPTAINS! (And I want coffee!) My teaching resources are all designed to enable students to USE the language. This is why you will always find the communicative approach in my resources - even simple crosswords come with ideas for speaking activities. GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE 1

GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE 1

This is a set of 100 GERMAN question and answer cards that my students have always found really useful. With the structured speaking prompts, they are able to develop confidence in their speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their GERMAN grammar too. There are 50 questions with 50 suggested responses. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt. There are several games and activities that my students enjoy, and I’ve described them for you to try with yours. I use the cards for BEGINNERS GERMAN students, with a focus on general conversation, though my more advanced students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time. I always provide a reference booklet, and my students like to keep them in their learning folders for longer-term reference. When they create their own questions and answers for each other on the card template, they also find them really useful as a form of writing frame. There are two non-editable files in a zipped format. I always laminate the cards, even though the prep is a bit time-consuming - they’re far sturdier and easier to use, and will definitely last for years! Please follow TERMS OF USE - the resource is copyright - if departmental colleagues also wish to use the cards, please purchase a whole-school license. Colleagues in other schools must make their own purchase. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM PLAUDERN!

Viel Freude damit! ❤️ About me ❤️ Hi there 👋🏼! I´m Cindy from Leipzig, Germany. Spanish grammar auction activity

Spanish grammar auction activity

How do you make grammar less dry? Is there a way to test understanding whilst also getting students to focus on simple but important details like the ending of a word? It turns out there are lots of ways of doing just that; this is one of them. It works really well in any language, and can be easily adapted to different topics in less than 5 minutes. Each student, or group of students, starts with a set amount of imaginary money and works through the questions to end with more or less. It’s the speed and the competition of it that makes it exciting and helps you to really see who is looking at the detail. To differentiate, you can simply alter how long you leave each slide on the board. You can even get a student to explain why an answer is correct, so you can broaden the focus a little and offer a little reward such as letting that student (or the group) be first out of the door at the end of the lesson. This is so versatile and so easy to change that what this resource really is is a template. If you don’t have, or don’t want to use, mini-whiteboards, then simply remove that line of the slide and replace it with your preferred alternative.

German present tense verbs worksheet

German present tense verbs worksheet

This worksheet is a structured and fairly simple way to practise using German verbs in the present tense. Spielen is written out in full as a guide, then there are 3 tasks. First pupils just choose the correct spelling of spielen from the list above, to complete the 10 sentences. Then there are 12 sentences in German with a gap to complete with the correct spelling of the verb which is given in the infinitive each time. Finally there are 10 sentences in German for pupils to complete with the correct spelling of some strong verbs (which may change their vowel). Again, the infinitives are given. Pupils are also asked to translate all the sentences into English. Answers provided on page 2.
