New French GCSE - Practice writing paper and feedback sheets: Theme 1 (Identity and culture)

New French GCSE - Practice writing paper and feedback sheets: Theme 1 (Identity and culture)

Two practice writing papers (one foundation, one higher) following the format of the new GCSE writing exam. The foundation paper includes four questions (describe the photo, 40 words question, translation and 90 words question) and the higher paper includes three (90 words question, 150 words question and translation). The papers focus on Theme 1 of the new spec (Identity and culture) and they cover family and relationships, technology and leisure. I have also included two feedback sheets (one foundation, now higher) that include"check-lists" (based on the AQA mark scheme for writing) to provide quick, personalised feedback for each of the questions. The check lists provide the students with feedback on what went well (WWW) and what they need to do to improve further (TIF). The resource also includes an explanation of the requirements of the Foundation and the Higher writing papers and a copy of the mark scheme for each question.

French Food Vocabulary : Internet Shopping List

French Food Vocabulary : Internet Shopping List

Really popular worksheet with all my pupils and a great task for independent learning. Pupils use French supermarket website to create their own vocabulary list (recommend www.auchan.fr as one that is easy to use). Pupils will learn 100 new words without even realising that they are working! Also a great activity to include on a school trip to France. Pupils can visit the local supermarket and complete their shopping list using the shop labels to help them.

French Food Vocabulary : Revision Worksheet and Test

French Food Vocabulary : Revision Worksheet and Test

Worksheet to practice and revise basic food vocabulary (16 items). Pupils should look, say, cover, and write each word before checking that they have spelt it correctly. You can also easily adapt the resource by asking them to fill in the second column without looking at the French word so that the exercise becomes a vocabulary test too. A test is also provided to check pupils' learning. I have found this exercise particularly effective with low ability groups and pupils with SEN to assist them in correctly spelling the target language.

French : Food Questionnaire

French : Food Questionnaire

Basic questionnaire for pupils to use in class to ask each other about what food they eat and their likes and dislikes. A version using the polite 'vous' form is also included. This activity has proved very popular on school trips abroad with pupils visiting the local town or shop and asking passers-by about their favourite foods.
