This is a plan and resources for a beginner's French lesson to use with KS2. It involves children learning the vocabulary for different soft drinks in French. The plan could be used for an individual lesson, or as part of a food and drinks unit. The plan gives details of a game for a starter, how to teach the vocabulary, a whole class speaking and listening game, another speaking and listening activity, a written activity and a conversation plenary. It is highly interactive and allows children to practise a range of language skills. Resources needed for the lesson are included in the price. A substantial interactive lesson presentation (around 100 slides) to introduce and consolidate French Food and Drink (La Nourriture et Les Boissons) vocabulary. 30 key food and drink words are introduced and key questions and answers linked to the topic are also featured. This PowerPoint scaffolds students’ learning around the ordering of food and drinks and giving opinions about them. Slides feature answers that appear on a mouse click. Activities and games are also included: role-play slides (plus answers) and slides for games of Splat and Kim’s game. Suits beginners or near beginners in Key Stage 2 (KS2) or early KS3 and equivalents. A US version is included with terms like 'sweets' and 'chips' replaced with 'candy' and 'fries'. Articulate game (Tabou): 16 French food cards

I designed these 16 cards (to cut out and possibly laminate) after one of my pupils told me about the game 'Articulate' (Tabou en francais): players take it in turns to make the other players guess a French word without using 2 'banned' keywords. It is a fun activity that gives pupils the opportunity to revise basic vocabulary by explaining what they mean, therefore using conversational skills, grammar as well vocab. I will soon upload more cards linked to other topics (family, school, animals, etc.)
