Bubble Writing - Handwriting scaffold KS1

(6)
Bubble writing - cursive handwriting scaffold Like many primary school teachers I have tried a variety of handwriting schemes with varying degrees of success. Having thought through many common problems with handwriting I have developed a simple scaffold that places a bubble either side of the line to support letter formation. This simple scaffold provides a guide to consistently form cursive letters and ensure each letter is uniform in both height and width. Children are able to leave equal spaces between words and see clearly whether or not there is enough space at the end of each line for the next word they intend to write. There has been a huge impact within my class in a very short space of time and I hope you will see similar benefits within your own setting. Included is a PowerPoint presentation including words from the Year 1/2 spelling list that can be printed as a handwriting pack for children to work through. Blank slides enable you to add words to suit your needs and finally 2 different sized PDF scaffolds that children can use to write on (If photocopied the bubbles will disappear to leave the writing that has been completed.)

Creative Writing Scheme of Work GCSE

7 Resources
Full scheme of work covering all aspects of creative writing. Ideal in preparing students for GCSE English Language Paper 1, Section B. Designed with the very latest developments in the 9-1 specification in mind, this is best suited to the AQA syllabus but would be equally useful for both KS3 prep and other exam boards. Please see individual resources for more details. The lessons all work well as stand-alone, but if being used in sequence, the scheme runs as follows: Lesson 1 - Vocabulary Lesson 2 - Sensory Description Lesson 3 - Devices and Techniques Lesson 4 - Narrative and Descriptive Openings Lesson 5 - Sentence Variation Lesson 6 - Characterisation Lesson 7 - Narrative Structure Each lesson takes the form of a ‘masterclass’; each masterclass is packed with a range of activities that will enable your students to truly embed and master each aspect of creative writing. Each ‘lesson’ is probably going to take in excess of 2 hours to get through - you may wish to ‘pick and choose’ activities, or take your time with each skill area and cover them in depth. GCSE English Language - Speech Writing (AQA: Paper 2, Question 5)

(9)
This is a PowerPoint lesson to help students learn speech writing. Starter: Watching and discussing a speech as an example. Objectives: Learn to write a speech and apply persuasive language techniques. Reminder: What is Question 5 about? Tips: Top tips for speeches. I got my students to copy this down and show me that they’ve had a go at using these tips later in the writing activity. Reading: Read the extract of a speech as a class. I then split my class up into groups and allocated each of them one of the highlighted language examples. I then gave them a few minutes to discuss the questions and answer them before feeding back to the rest of the class. List activity: I gave my students about 10 - 15 minutes to brainstorm and reflect on these lists. It was inspired by Sarah Kay’s TED talk, which is linked in the lesson. Writing: Write a speech. Students can choose an examples from the board of their own. They must try to include the persuasive features on the board as well as using the tips mentioned at the beginning of the lesson.
