Space Assembly Script - EYFS/KS1

(1)
An editable script for a space-themed assembly for younger pupils. Features two songs for children to sing and 30 separate speaking parts (though these are easily combined should you have children who do not wish to speak). The basic premise of the assembly is that two children in the class want to go on holiday to space and so listen to some facts about the eight planets to help make their decision. They don’t want to stay on planet Earth because it’s too messy! In the end they realise that the other planets would not be great holiday destinations because they’re too hot/too cold/too rocky/too smelly! They choose to stay on planet Earth but realise that they have to help to look after it to keep it a nice place to live. We had great success with this assembly in Reception last year - the children (and parents) loved it - and it’s easily edited to make it work for other classes.

Plus it’s a little different to a standard worksheet! The phases of the moon in this resource are as seen in the Northern Hemisphere. English / Literacy: Recount Writing Activity - Planet Unknown

(1)
Planet Unknown is a brilliant futuristic animation about a two Space Rovers, sent to find potential inhabitable planets using 'nSeed' pods to detect the possibility of growing plants. In the story, the two Rovers are undertaking their mission, but suddenly find themselves battling through an asteroid shower. This resource is two lessons; the first gets children to brainstorm descriptive language for the two characters and the setting, while the second is the writing recount of events from the film. The two objectives are as follows: 1) To describe a film setting and its characters 2) To be able to recount a film as a written story These are each supported by specific success criteria to aid children's writing. This pack includes a Smartboard presentation with detailed slides for both lessons, a planning worksheet for lesson one, and screenshots JPEGs of the characters and the setting It can easily be adapted for different KS2 year groups and a particular skill focus, e.g. tense, sentence starters, grammar or vocab. I have kept it as a general recount focus involving all skills.

These fun foldouts are a memorable way of teaching the planets in our solar system and the phases of the moon. Use as a science centre, for an interactive notebook or to support learning/lessons around space, including World Space Week. Sequencing the planets There are 3 similar template options to choose from: Students colour the template with the planets in order (from nearest to the sun to furthest away). They also colour the 2 halves of the space scene. They then cut out the template and space scene, glue the space scene to the top and bottom of the template, then fold. The second option is the same, but students will cut out and order the planets before gluing and folding. For the third option, students match simple facts to each of the planets before cutting and folding. Phases of the moon This printable activity has 4 options for you to choose from so that you can best match the needs of your students: Template 1: Colour the phases of the moon, cut, glue and fold. Template 2 (print in colour): Identify the phases of the moon, write them on the template, glue, cut and fold. Template 3: Colour the phases of the moon, sequence them on the template, glue, cut and fold. There are 2 label options for this template - one has the letter ‘b’ on the phases of the moon to show students which part to colour black. Template 4: Colour the phases of the moon, cut and sequence them, write the names of each stage, glue, cut and fold. The phases of the moon include the letter ‘b’ to show which part to colour black.

Outer space all about me foldable activity for back to school

(0)
Blast off into a new school year with this space-themed all about me foldable activity, designed to help you get to know your class. This printable resource is a fun alternative to a standard worksheet. It is suitable for classroom use as part of your back-to-school activities, or send home to as a transition activity over the summer break. In this set, each foldout displays a different letter so that pupils can complete one that matches their first initial. The inner section has meaningful questions on an outer space theme as follows: Captain… (children insert their name here) Age Things I love to the moon and back I’m a star at… (for children to tell you what they are good at) My mission is to get better at… (for children to let you know areas that they might need extra help and support). Print the pages you need on A4 or letter-size paper (landscape). Pupils colour the space scene, fill in their answers with words and pictures, then cut out and fold. No glue or tape required! Once folded, it can be closed to show the space scene and the first letter of their name, then opened to display their ‘about me’ answers inside. The questions and clipart cannot be changed/edited. A picture showing how to fold is included. US and UK paper size/spelling included. There are 26 pages black and white pages - one for each letter of the alphabet. Year 2 Living in Space Comprehension / World Space Week

(1)
This resource is a non-fiction comprehension activity for year 2. The theme of the comprehension is ‘living in space’ and the booklet covers what it is like for astronauts living in space stations, including what they eat, how they sleep, how they exercise and what they do in their spare time. It would be perfect for using during ‘World Space Week’ in October, during a space topic or during ‘Science Week.’ The booklets are based on the KS1 SATs reading paper. I have included 3 differentiated levels. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘how’ and ‘who’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets. There is a title page with helpful words followed by four pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 4 questions per page. Each differentiated level contains 16 questions in total. There is a colour and black white PDF version of the booklet for each level and answers are also included.
