A different take on the scrabble starter - Buzz Words!

Students roll the dice x6 times and make a note of what they roll and each element they will need. Students have to think of their own words to create their own sentences.

Rainbow Reading is great for differentiation as it gives students a colourful clue as to which paragraph to find the answers to the questions. Here is an example I have done - the keep fit text is not 100% mine, I have adapted it - but I have used the Rainbow Reading technique here.

Students break up the sentences and translate into English.

Students use the last 2 letters of each word to create the next one! Challenge: translate the words!

A template with timer for 2 mins: In pairs, student A asks B a question from the conversation booklet - student B must answer the question - they then repeat this process with the same question/answer, as many times in 2 mins.

Paired dictation template - ‘Repite, por favor’ - great for preparing for the new GCSE MFL speaking and listening elements of the exam. Student A reads out each sentence - student B has to write them out correctly. They have 3 lives - if they need to hear the sentence again, they say ‘repite, por favor’ and lose a life. Student B then reads out their sentences to student A, etc. Fully adaptable.

Using the letters in each button, students work out the word.

Upside down sentences - students re-write the sentences correctly, challenge to translate them into English. Great for Conti’s method of chunking!

A template for a quick gap-fill activity, based on Space Invaders.

Using the website Flamingtext.com I have created a Moving Phrases template. Students write the sentence they see before it disappears. Challenge is to translate it.

This is an A Level Spanish synonyms game template that I have named ‘Sabelotodo’ Students give the most obvious answer to the vocab - if another student knows a better synonym/ answer they buzz in to ‘outsmart’ the others and win double points. Adaptable template!

Students write x1 sentence for each picture on the fidget spinner. Doesn’t had to go in order - specific tense and person is labelled in the middle of each spinner. For challenge - students could add details and connect sentences to make paragraph.

This is my take on the 5 second game - students have to describe 5 things in 5 seconds on the card. If they do, they keep the card. Student with the most cards, wins! Adaptable template.

Template for the Skittles Conversation Practice Challenge - editable. STUDENTS CHOOSE A COLOUR ASK THEIR PARTNER A QUESTION FROM THAT THEME IF THEY ANSWER THE QUESTION CORRECTLY, THEY CAN KEEP THE SWEET! REPEAT UNTIL ALL SKITTLES ARE GONE! :)

Starter activity - perhaps quite challenging for KS3 but ideal for top end KS4 and KS5 to get them thinking about vocab.
