3x 1 hour fully differentiated resources that explore AQA English Language Paper 1 Question 3 and focus on structure within extracts from 1984, Remarkable Creatures and The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Both challenging for the most able students and accessible for lower ability, these lessons are invaluable to any teacher and student preparing for Section A of this key exam.
AQA English Language Paper 1 lesson that looks at Q2 and in particular sentences and how they can impact on a reader. We analyse an extract and look at how the writer has used short sentences and longer, descriptive sentences to build up a sense of a terrifying character. The lesson tries to move students away from generic, shallow answers like ‘it makes it interesting for the reader’ to more specific, in-depth analysis of sentences. A fully differentiated and resourced lesson that helps students write detailed answers for AQA Language Paper 1 Section A Q2. The lesson, ideal for both KS3 and KS4 students preparing for AQA English Language Paper 1 Section A, focuses on sentences and their effects.
As we study Willy Russell's Blood Brothers we look at how the narrator is used to convey character and plot and how Mrs Johnstone is introduced to us, as well as the historical context of Marilyn Monroe and the 1950s and 60s. An ideal introductory lesson for students looking at Blood Brothers for AQA English Literature Paper 2 or other exam boards and specifications. Fully differentiated throughout.

As we continue to study Tom Becker’s Darkside, we look at The Prologue and how the character of Ricky is introduced, plus look at the language used to describe one of the mysterious people that follows Ricky through the streets of the city. Fully differentiated and resourced, this lesson is designed for KS3 students but is easily adaptable for older students.
As we continue to study Tom Becker’s Darkside, we delve into Chapter Five and look at how the writer describes the London Underground and introduces the mysterious character of Marianne. A brilliant lesson for KS3 students and fully differentiated throughout.
When Lennie and Curley’s Wife talk in Chapter Five, Curley’s Wife shows a lot of different emotions and we see a different side to her personality. We analyse Curley’s Wife’s emotions through key quotations and create detailed analytical paragraphs together before peer assessing them. A really useful lesson for KS3 students with a number of activities helpful for KS4 students, too. Differentiated throughout.
Focussing on The Ghost of Christmas Past in Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, in this fully differentiated and resourced lesson we look at how Dickens presents the Ghost’s appearance and why, as well as analysing key quotes to see how Scrooge shows increasing remorse and regret before creating our own analytical paragraphs. Perfect AQA English Literature exam preparation and easily adaptable for younger classes as well.

A fully differentiated lesson on Singh Song by Daljit Nagra that analyses how the narrator sees himself, his wife and his relationship to his parents and how they fit into his sense of identity. Includes key words, key quotes, differentiated activities and visually engaging and interesting resources for students preparing for AQA English Literature Paper 2 at KS4, but can also be easily adapted for KS3 students as well.
As we continue to study Tom Becker’s Darkside, we look at how the writer builds up tension in Chapter Seven and plot out a tension graph based on the changing tension within the chapter. A really useful lesson for KS3 students and some interesting activities that could be adapted for KS4. Fully differentiated throughout.
As we study Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, we recap the links between the characters so far, how Puck’s mistake causes chaos in the play and how the characters speak to each other as Lysander falls in love with Helena and Helena and Hermia deal with the aftermath and artificial change in his character. Fully differentiated throughout.
Sign of Four - We take a look at Chapter Four of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Victorian detective story The Sign of Four and explore the character of Thaddeus Sholto, as well as the appearance of his unusual apartment. A fully differentiated and resourced lesson that prepares students for AQA English Literature Paper 1, but is easily adaptable for KS3 students.

A lesson that focuses on using comparatives and superlatives accurately, as well as looking at how to use ‘of’ and ‘have’ correctly and how to differentiate between ‘maybe’ and ‘may be’. Designed for KS3 students and including differentiated activities, this is a literacy lesson that ensures students of all abilities are engaged throughout.
As we study A Midsummer Night’s Dream we look at how dreams are presented in the play and the importance of the theme by analyzing key quotes from the end of Act 4 Scene 1. We look at how Demetrius and Hermia talk of dreams and try to understand what has happened to them, plus explore Bottom’s dream speech from the end of the act. Fully differentiated throughout.
As we study A Midsummer Night’s Dream we look at Oberon’s plan for revenge on Titania in Act 2 Scene 1 and explore the introduction of both Helena and Demetrius together as she explains her love for him and he roundly and rudely rejects her. Additionally, students look at Oberon’s response to their arguments and his plan for these characters as well. Key quotes are explored and students discuss characters’ feelings and motivations.
