Simon Armitage's Conflict Poetry [Remote Learning Booklet]

(0)
This KS3 remote learning booklet has been designed to not only assist pupils with their home learning, but to facilitate the strengthening of the skills needed for KS4 and the analysis of AQA’s ‘Power and Conflict’ poetry cluster. This comprehensive booklet consists of the resources below: Research on the poet/poet fact file. Defining conflict (using the ‘Frayer Model’) The guided analysis of Armitage’s ‘Out of the Blue’, with space to write a singular essay-style paragraph on the language used within the poem. The guided analysis of Armitage’s ‘Manhunt’. Space for a creative task based on Armitage’s ‘Manhunt’ (Diary Entry). The guided analysis of Armitage’s ‘About His Person’, with space for an extended essay-style answer. The guided analysis of Armitage’s ‘Remains’. An ILP (independent learning project) which requires students to compare two of the poems in a creative way (templates have been included for students to fill out if they struggle with this more advanced element). I hope this helps and please leave feedback! :)

Remote Learning - Reading Record with Reading Lessons

Below is a very simple reading record which I give to parents in order to facilitate remote learning and wider reading. This reading record is geared towards KS3 but I have previously adapted this to suit the guided reading of GCSE texts. The reading record also has a competitive element, with reading being rewarded with merits and - as such - I have left the ‘Merits & Rewards’ table empty for parents/teachers to input in rewards. This reading record booklet includes: A ‘reading journey’ page in which students can write about any books they have previously read/would like to read. Author research pages where students are to do background research on the authors they are reading. Reading log with summary questions. Book review templates. Netflix poster. Please feel free to adapt and please leave feedback. Hope it helps!

'Other Cultures Poetry' [Remote Learning Booklet]

A remote learning or home learning booklet on ‘Other Cultures Poetry’. This KS3 ‘Other Cultures Poetry’ booklet contains one lesson on identity before moving on to a guided analysis and creative interpretation of 4 poems: ‘Caged Bird’ by Maya Angelou ‘Blessing’ by Imtiaz Dharker ‘Vultures’ by Chinua Achebe ‘Yorkshire Day’ by Tim Turnbull Whilst originally made for KS3, this ‘Other Cultures Poetry’ booklet can easily be adapted to suit KS4. I will be using this booklet for around 5 lessons before asking students to do a GCSE-style, language analysis question in a following lesson. This resource also contains a marking/answer PowerPoint. Please do leave feedback & I hope it helps!

Descriptive Writing - Spooky Writing [Remote Learning Booklet]

This remote learning booklet encourages students to produce some spooky writing, based on a single image. Whilst this descriptive writing resource was primarily made for a ‘low-attaining’, KS3 group, (helping them to develop ambitious vocabulary and facilitating their practice of AQA Language Paper 1 - Question 5 skills) this sinister resource can easily be adapted to add extra stretch and challenge opportunities and can even be used to produce some KS4 creative writing. The booklet consists of: Task = Complete the ‘word bank’ using an online/physical thesaurus. Task = Complete the planning sheet. Task = Spooky writing practice. I hope this helps and please leave feedback!
DAFOREST Techniques Grid/Persuasive Language Techniques Grid

DAFOREST Techniques Grid/Persuasive Language Techniques Grid

This is a simple, editable DAFOREST techniques grid suitable for both KS3 and KS4 use. Whilst a column has been left blank for students to engage in creating their own examples of each DAFOREST technique (a great starter or plenary), this can be edited out in order to make this a reference-based resource. This is also a great resource to add to any home/remote learning packs as it can easily be pasted into a PowerPoint or word document to help students utilise DAFOREST techniques in their writing. I hope it helps and please feel free to feedback!

AQA Language Paper 2/Question 5 Remote Learning Booklet

(3)
Attached is an AQA Language Paper 2 - Question 5 revision booklet. This resource has been made for remote/home learning and so also has a ‘self-marking’ PowerPoint which goes alongside it. I have previously set this for mid-ability Y10’s but everything about the resource is adaptable, and thus, it can easily be changed to suit a range of abilities. I have found that this booklet can take 2-3 lessons but this, obviously, depends on the group. The booklet is as follows: Task = Identifying text type, audience and purpose for a range of Q5s. Task = Revising tone Task = Identification and analysis of persuasive language techniques in a leaflet. Task = Students are to mark their answers and add any omitted information by using the attached PowerPoint. Task = Students are to plan an answer to the question “‘Zoos are disgusting! They deny animals the right to live naturally and freely.’ Write an article for your school newsletter, explaining your viewpoint.” Task = Students are to write an answer to the above question. Plenary Task = Students are to identify the persuasive language techniques in the table. Task = Students are to self-mark using the attached PowerPoint. Hope it helps and please do give feedback!
