Two apostrophe practice sheets on PPT pages. The children use the pictures to generate their own sentences, using apostrophes. One page is singular apostrophes, the other plural. These can be shown to the whole class, but can also be printed out and laminated or photocopied. They can be used by children independently in small groups (such as in group reading time) to practise using apostrophes once they have been taught them. They are fully editable. Originally designed for a year 4/5 class this includes all you need for at least a week's worth of lessons. Children watch the presentation about the features of an argument text. They then read a text out as a class: 'Should whales & dolphins be kept in captivity?' and working in pairs, answer questions about it. Next they write a similar argument - Should alien creatures be kept as pets? (as we were following a space theme at the time). They have a checklist and a planning sheet to help them with this. Next they watch a presentation about an advert for a holiday on an island in the Maldives and they go on to produce their own advert for a trip to Planet Zog, or a planet of their choice, real or imagined. Again, a checklist and planning sheet are provided. All fully editable. An introductory ppt presentation explaining what paragraphs are and why they are needed in general. A further ppt presentation explains when paragraphs are needed in non-fiction. The ppt includes 2 activities that can be completed together as a class and an idea for an individual task. First lesson is on adverbs with lesson starter activity to sort words into classes - verbs, adverbs or prepositions. Children are reminded what adverbs are. They look at pictures of Mr Bean then act out some things he does. Others to supply an adverb to match the mime. They then write up sentences about Mr Bean using adverbs. The second lesson has a similar starter activity, sorting conjunctions, adjectives and adverbs. They then look at the sentences they wrote previously about Mr Bean using adverbs. How could they extend these to make them more interesting? Could use conjunctions to make them longer. Children to try some out. Could also use fronted adverbials at the beginning. Examples are given. The children then choose some of their sentences to improve in this way. All resources are fully editable. Lesson 1: Use of connectives concentrating on 'because'. Includes mnemonic which could be printed out for display. Show faces of 'Harry' with different emotions. Why is he feeling like this. Orally think of sentences - Harry was feeling happy because... Next children write sentences about children on their own table in a similar way. Lesson 2: This time children are shown pictures of places - London, the moon, the zoo etc. They write similar sentences about other children but this time use more connectives, e.g. Maria went to the zoo when it was her birthday. Lesson 1- Children describe Paddington Bear using expanded noun phrases. Lesson 2 - Children watch clip where PB meets the Brown family. They write sentences about this using connectives. Lesson 3 - Children watch the clip where PB eats in the station cafe. They write sentences using a question and an exclamation, as well as connectives. Lesson 4 - Children watch the clip of PB in the bathroom. Again, they write sentences using a question and an exclamation, as well as connectives. The PPT (or alternatively Notebook file) provides teaching and practice activities. There are links to the YouTube promotional clips for the first Paddington film. Learning objectives and checklists are also provided for each lesson. These enable children to proofread their own or a partner’s work. Small pictures are provided which can be printed out for children to use who need additional help. They can be stuck down one side of the page and children can write sentences next to them. Loads of activities for the whole school which can be used for a French day or for added cultural understanding. Children learn a language by hearing first, so there are lots of games included where they have to listen to instructions and then act on them. There is a whole sheet of these which can be used outside for PE or in the hall or some around a table in the classroom. Pictures and vocabulary to use as stimuli for descriptive writing. First children could be asked to describe the scenes orally using as many of the words as they can. The pictures can also be printed out for individual use. There is a worksheet to accompany this - the children choose one scene to describe. A second ppt shows a picture of a good and a bad character. Children are asked to look up the given vocabulary and find synonyms. This is also included as a worksheet. All fully editable. Children watch the PPT or Smart board presentation showing pictures of a day out at the beach. They talk about what they take with them, their picnic lunch, what they do at the beach and what they buy at the shop. They do this orally, or on whiteboards, using the picture prompts, thinking carefully about where the commas should go. They then write a paragraph describing the day out, using the given sentence openers. There is a check list to help them to remember to use commas correctly. Finally, they could go on to write a descriptive paragraph about another day out using commas in a similar way, such as a day at the zoo, or a visit to a big city. Fully editable. A ppt or Smartboard presentation to help children to sequence sentences. First they describe a spooky house with help from the pictures. Then what happens when they go to the spooky house? What do they see first? Who do the eyes belong to? New eyes appear. Who do they belong to? The children first tell the story orally, then they write down their own accounts. Loads of activities children can work through on their own using the word book. They check the spellings of animal names in the dictionary, learn to spell the days of the week and months of the year, learn body words and story characters etc. I found that they really enjoyed doing these e.g. when they had finished their work, and they were learning all the time! A ppt explaining the difference between the simple past and the present perfect and when to use each one. Three worksheets with multiple choice questions where the children have to choose the correct form of the verb. These are also provided without the multiple choice for higher ability children. The children watch the ppt first and complete the exercises orally or on white boards. They could write ‘Simple past’ on one side of their boards and ‘Present perfect’ on the other and hold up the correct one. They then complete the worksheets. Answers are included.
