I made this resource for my year 2 class after teaching the fractions of shapes and to move them on using this model to find fractions of numbers. There are differentiated worksheets. This is how we did it: 1. Colour in the fraction that you have to find on the circle eg 1/2. 2. Look at the number you have to share (eg 6) and share it into the fraction shown (on the circle share 6 between the two halves). 3. Count how many each fraction has. 4. Check the amount is equal. I could not categorise this resource on here properly as 'Using and Applying' or 'Problem Solving' are not on the TES system. Most of these resources are differentiated 2 ways but I found it worked best to do them in partners and discuss as class etc. It's good to do those over a few weeks as some are similar and reinforce learning points such as using a system/logical way of working eg always starting with same colour... Mini beast hunt: 3 different kinds of minibeasts were found, 10 or 20 altogether. What are the different options? Chinese New Year Race Challenge: 3 (or 4) more animals turn up for the race of the zodiac. They missed it and have their own race. In which order could they finish?

This is the planning (very skeletal) that I have used in my year 2 class for a week on 2D shapes. Probably suitable for higher year 1 and lower year 3 as well. All resources included, very skeletal plan and 21 pages notebook file for teaching/modelling/plenaries. If you haven't got notebook/smartboard software I attached a PDF file of the slides which can also be used. All you need is some 2D shapes for the children and mirrors for the symmetry lesson. :) Includes sheets, plan (skeletal - see below) and notebook. SHAPE PLANNING - Worksheets and Notebook File for whole week included Monday Shape introduction, what are 2D and 3D shapes. Naming the different 2D shapes and matching names to shapes, then yes/no or thumbs up and down activity. Then model how to do main activity for the day, recording the properties of the different shapes - children work on properties in pairs. Do first shape together. Children do activity from sheet 1. Then mark as class. Plenary is a bit of shape fun! Tuesday Write down ten words, either shape names or properties etc. Children have to guess all ten words in one minute. Introduce activity. Take two shapes from the shape box in your classroom and put them together in any way you like. Draw around them on your sheet. Now can you describe the properties of the new shape? Challenge - name the polygon. Peer marking as plenary. Wednesday Write down ten words, either shape names or properties etc. Children have to guess all ten words in one minute. Then use whiteboard file to model shape sorting as class using venn diagram. Children sort shapes into venn diagram on sheets and move on to carroll diagram or use it for differentiation. Also shape sorting tree as challenge. Plenary: Look at the Venn diagram - which shape is in the wrong place? Thursday Give each child a mirror and some 2D shapes from the class box. Can they cut the shape in half using the mirror? Does the mirror image finish the shape in the same way? Print worksheets from this website: http://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/symmetry.php Plenary: Discuss the real life images and discuss whether they are symmetrical or not - also introduce rotational symmetry using recycling logo as starting point. Friday Introduce children to geoboards. What can you do with them? Give them rubber bands and a few moments to explore how to use them. Then introduce idea of making pentagons - explain difference between regular and irregular pentagon. Then children have to make as many different pentagons on geoboards as they can and record them on sheet. They decide if they are regular or irregular. Plenary: Peer marking.

I made these worksheets for my year 2 class. It teaches them the skills of using partitioning with Dienes Cubes/ Base 10 in order to help them double numbers. It is very visual and they really understood it well. They drew the number that needed to be doubled twice and counted ones and tens to get the answer for its double. I made this resource for my year 2 class. There are differentiated worksheets/challenges designed to use when learning about and =. You can either teach the whole class and just use the sheet ot do the following: I designed it so that the WAGD group can teach themselves while you teach the rest of the class about the signs. The WAGD group reads the first few sheets and does the started activity independently. When you send the rest of the class to work on the activity you can check in on the WAGD group and move them on to further challenges included. This is a 4x4 bingo game which I did for my yr 1 and they really loved it. Just stick pictures of 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p coins on a dice and they can play. Resource includes 6 different sheets (enough for a table group).

The teacher simply needs to add the prices depending on the year group’s needs (and differentiate it for different groups) and then children work on word problems (mostly multiplication) about party planning with Royal Wedding Merchandise… There are also two group tasks if you would like a more open ended activity; one where children decide what to buy for how many people and find the total and one where children plan on a budget that you set and have to figure out what they can get for the amount they have. AGain the teacher will have to add prices. I hope that works - feedback very welcome, have already acted upon feedback and improved the resource. I also included a powerpoint about Buckingham Palace - interior and exterior - to show children what it looks like and to get an idea of Royal life. Here some resources I made for my class for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2016 in France. This pack includes: 1. A two pages long information sheet with facts about the past, this year's games and the mascot. This could be used for research (individually or whole class) when making posters/leaflets etc. 2. A 4 pages long comprehension based on the fact sheet. The text is on the top half of the sheet and questions are below for children to answer. It is differentiated in a higher and a lower comprehension - one with mostly retrieval and one with retrieval and some inference questions. 3. A geography worksheet for mapping countries in Europe that take part. Children can choose 12 countries, find them on the map and make a key. If you wanted to differentiate it, you could print it out twice and fill in the key for one already. I would recommend copying the map on A3 paper to make it easier for children. 4. I created this differentiated worksheet for my year 2 class when we analysed and interpreted data. Questions include simple retrieval such as How many people like? What is the most/least popular item as well as adding up totals (How many people like ... and ...?) and finding the difference questions such as How many more people liked ... than ... Each group has 2 or 3 sheets. It is differentiated for the lowest group as well and includes a mastery style question for the high ability. COMPREHENSION This is a brilliant comprehension to use in English when talking about harvest as it links to RE. I would recommend it for year 2 and up.
