A lesson (could be extended to 2, as these are planned to 75mins plus hwk) on DNA, human genome project and early human migration, for the new AQA GCSE spec, topic 6.
A KS3 resource, in this instance was delivered to a mixed ability year 8 group. The lesson covers DNA in a good amount of detail, without going into the unneeded complexities of base pairing, the technical naming of structures etc. May be a good resource to revise DNA with low ability KS4 exam groups also.
Students will explore the work of Watson & Crick, before considering the use of DNA and prior learning covered on cells which don’t fit the pattern in terms of DNA or chromosomes.
Students will visit the idea of mutations, and consider what they are, using a simple letter replacement game (they can design their own after seeing the example (challenge).
Finally followed by some past question practice (GCSE AO1)>
`This lesson is fully differentiated, with extension and challenge throughout’
A bundle for the new AQA GCSE spec for the first required practical on microscope use. The sheets included contain activities, methods and homeworks as well as a powerpoint to follow.
AQA 9-1 Chemistry lesson on bond energies.
Fully differentiated and high challenge lesson, inc PPQs, extension challenges, clear worked examples & AfL.
Lower ability foundation lesson for AQA 9-1 Combined trilogy (suits other boards/specs) on Evolution by natural selection. Includes the seeds & tweezers practical, or can be substituted out.
Practical based pair of lessons on cont/discontinuous variation aimed at KS3 or low ability/ recap for KS4.
Includes PPQs for each lesson too.
Focus on method writing/graph drawing etc.
A resource inc ppt & past paper Qs to revise photosynthesis & leaf structure, nice straightforward lesson, with AO1/2/3 exam questions to be used throughout, and differentiated RAG tasks during the lesson.
A resource outlining all 10 required practicals, with links to suitable videos to remove the need to re-do all practicals (impossible in one or two lessons). Each slide is simply laid out to prompt students with ‘possible questions’ and an overview from a video, of the practical.
The resource is divided into Paper 1 & paper 2, so you could deliver it over 2 lessons. I have also included the new AQA key command words, many of which are relevant to practicals, for students to do as a long starter type task, identifying what would be expected if they saw each word in a Q.
the resource also clearly identifies which resources are not required for trilogy (also synergy).
A full powerpoint with Bio/Chem/Phys recall questions and graphical answers, each slide can be shared with students 1 day at a time and then answers the following day, through google classroom or moodle etc.
May also be good to use with tutor groups.
A great practical & Kinaesthetic based lesson on Diffusion. Practical to carry out is the effect of temp on rate of diffusion.
Students are active in this lesson, with a lot of opportunity for class discussion & real world application.
A full lesson for a lower ability KS4 group on DNA.
Covers the following outcomes
State that DNA contains a code to build proteins.
• Describe the basic structure of DNA & it’s importance
• Outline what the human genome project is.
An in depth, differentiated lesson for the new spec AQA GCSE BIOLOGY, on leaf structure & adaptations to function.
Lesson is highly differentiated (and can be adapted to suit specific group).
