PRIMARY SPANISH VEGETABLES FLASHCARDS POSTERS

(0)
PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 VEGETABLES FLASHCARDS POSTERS My younger students love to see Spanish displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner Spanish learners too. There are 25 vegetables, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural - that’s so useful as a way into the concept of gender. I tend to vary my displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them asspeaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing games too. We don’t actually learn 25 vegetables at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as asparagus and artichoke. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practising language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy! The vegetables are: artichoke * asparagus * beetroot * broccoli * cabbage * carrots cauliflower * celery * corn * cucumber * eggplants/aubergines French/green beans * garlic * leeks * lettuce * mushrooms onions * peas * red peppers * yellow pepper * potatoes sprouts * spinach * sweet potatoes * tomato The posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size; there are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish flag or black wave, so 50 posters in all. There are three non-editable files in a zipped format. They’re copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. SPANISH COLOURS FLASHCARDS

(0)
PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH COLOURS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Spanish colours posters create an instant introduction to a range of colours in Spanish in your classroom. The posters also give the learning environment a fabulous Spanish look and feel, promoting Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. They introduce learners to colours in Spanish from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of Spanish words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The key colours are: aquamarine (blue-green); black; blue; brown (both marrón and pardo - I’ve also included castaño, as this is used to describe hair color and eyes for example, which are great topics to get learners talking in Spanish); cream (both beis and crema); green; grey; navy-blue; orange; bright pink; pink; purple; red; white; yellow. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. It doesn’t matter if this particular language doesn’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in Spanish, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in Spanish. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave, so 38 posters in total. Laminate the posters if possible, or print on card stock, particularly if you’re going to use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language: they’ll hang really nicely, stay in good shape, and you’ll be able to use them for years. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish flashcards / posters, and a wide range of other teaching and learning resources, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES COUNTRIES & CAPITALS QUIZ

EUROPEAN DAYS OF LANGUAGES QUIZ EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND CAPITAL CITIES - 2 QUIZZES WITH 120 MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS European countries & capitals multiple-choice quizzes are great games, suitable for any age range, at any time, but particularly for theannual European Day of Languages. I play them a lot, at different times of the school year, and with all different age groups. We keep a tally, so that we can track whether students are beating their own record. All students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, giving their memory a workout at the same time! The quizzes work really well as a whole-group team quiz, and are also perfect as a pair or small-group activity. The set contains all European countries & capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 3 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in CAPITAL LETTERS, to ensure that all students can participate - they really enjoy being the quiz master! The quiz cards are numbered, but I prefer to ask in random order: we simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work our way through! There are two quiz challenges - Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with three possible capital cities to choose from. Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with three possible countries to choose from. The quiz card templates allow students to put their memory and recall to the test in a different way, and to apply their knowledge very practically: they can create their own set of multiple-choice questions for each other. I always laminate my learning cards, as they’re far more user-friendly, and last for absolutely years! Each challenge has a different background - Europe map and green check - so that you and your students can easily identify which challenges the cards belong to, but I’ve also included the quizzes with no background, so that you can keep prep costs to a minimum. My students also find reference resources really useful - download this list of all European countries and capital cities for free here: EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES REFERENCE MAT https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/european-day-of-languages-reference-mat-12577943 Please note this is the European Day of Languages Europe Countries & Capitals quizzes version of my Geography World Continents Europe Countries & Capitals quizzes - please ensure you have not already purchased the Geography World Continents version. GERMAN FRUITS CHALLENGE CARDS

(0)
PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 FRUITS CHALLENGE CARDS really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of fruits in German in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in German. Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible. It also gives them chance to apply language in a practical, real-world context, which in turn helps embed both vocab and grammatical concepts into longer-term memory. The questions are all in German, and range in complexity and challenge. There are 35 fruits addressed in the cards, and it’s unlikely that they are all in your teaching and learning plan. I always include additional vocabulary to add a little challenge, and to encourage students to think a little more creatively and independently. I’ve provided an alphabetical German-English and English-German fruits list in case you don’t have access to bilingual dictionaries. I’ve used masculine and feminine fruits, definite and indefinite article, and singular and plural - this really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts without explicit instruction. There are some translation questions too - both from German to English and English to German, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner learners. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity, which is definitely useful for them to know from the very beginning of their learning. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and grammatical concepts creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other, and I encourage them to use the existing questions as a frame of reference as they create their own. The resource comprises the following files: = Set of 36 question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper = 2-page answer recording sheet = 2-page answer key = 2-page alphabetical fruits list, German-English & English-German The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES

CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS, GRID TEMPLATES & CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This resource combines two sets of Christmas word searches, with Set 1 designed more for KS2, and Set 1 for KS1 - of course, it depends on your learners, and what stage they are currently at in their learning. Christmas Word Searches #1 The set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on a wide range of Christmas vocabulary, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 48 Christmas words featured, which is a great way of stimulating discussion about cultural, religious and national traditions and practices. There are some religious words in the searches, such as Nativity and Three Kings/Wise Men. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - consolidating not only new words and vocabulary, but also working on reading, writing, spelling and English Language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. There are also four question and answer key grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other - this is a really popular activity, and I’ve found that my learners often like to create grids for family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of language development. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet, portrait format. There is also an answer key for each word search. Christmas Word Searches #2 This set features five differentiated word searches, again with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. For additional consolidation, they also rewrite each word in the word column. There are also five question and answer key grid templates . Encourage learners to include other Christmas words that aren’t included in the grids. We also discuss Christmas traditions and practices in our home and other countries, and this gives an additional opportunity to add words and phrases they can use in their own word searches. These word searches are in landscape format, mirroring the direction of reading and writing in English from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet. The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. ITALIAN ERE VERBS PRESENT TENSE

GCSE ITALIAN PRESENT TENSE -ERE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE I’ve found that these are a great introduction to, and consolidation of, conjugating Italian verbs. There are 25 high-frequency regular and irregular -ERE verbs in the present tense. I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the formal Lei form being identical to the conjugation of singular pronouns. The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, students whose first language is English do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in both languages, and I frequently see attempts such as io sto lavorare for I am working or similarly io faccio lavorare for I do work. I refer frequently the difference in usage, and this is important particularly when explaining when and in which contexts to use the simple present and the continuous / progressive present tense. The Challenge One Answer Key has both simple present and continuous present tense to help embed this notion a little more. The structure of the resource is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian-English and English-Italian Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1 each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2 gives the infinitive of each verb in Italian, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 3 students write the corresponding Italian verb conjugation, and its infinitive form, from an English prompt. answer key I encourage my students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template regularly, reflecting not only on the verbs and conjugations they feel confident about, but also how they think their general skills in Italian might be developing through the activity - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. They note any new verbs they learn, which helps them to build a really comprehensive verb vocab bank. We also use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about progress and learning in general, which is a really useful learning activity in itself. SPANISH IR VERBS PRESENT TENSE

GCSE SPANISH KS3 SPANISH KS4 SPANISH PRESENT TENSE IR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency Spanish IR verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for KS3 Spanish students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in Spanish. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the Spanish present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including for example the singular formal pronoun Usted form being identical, which is fairly standard, but the conjugation of the formal singular Usted does frequently lead to errors at this stage of learning. The resource is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Spanish-English and English-Spanish, useful for longer-term reference too Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in Spanish across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Spanish, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in Spanish. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Spanish verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from a Spanish prompt. GCSE ITALIAN -IRE VERBS PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE (passasto prossimo) great for practice and consolidation in a range of contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. There are 25 high-frequency regular and irregular -IRE verbs in the perfect tense (passato prossimo). The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage - students find that when they can immediately recall and produce the correct conjugation of a given verb, particularly out of context, they are really getting to grips with conjugation. The structure of the resource is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian-English and Italian-English Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugation questions, so 150 conjugation questions in total Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. ENGLISH DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS

ESL EFL ENGLISH DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS are perfect for advanced beginner English to intermediate English students, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential English language in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in English in general, and certainly in English dates, days, months and seasons in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress in their learning. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: 36 differentaited question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper answer recording sheet I tend to use these for more formal assessment purposes, so for class work, my students use their work notebook, which also saves on prep and paper. answer key students can assess their own or each others’ work, which helps develop independence in learning, and is also a great teacher time-saver! PRIMARY MATHS NUMBERS 0-100 WORD SEARCHES

PRIMARY MATHS NUMBERS 0-100 Ten differentiated word searches with answer keys a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-100, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target numbers vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on comprehension and arithmetic skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and sentence questions, which feature mathematical language. Hyphens are really important in English numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! There is a single word search per page, portrait format. I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners—and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. PRIMARY LATIN VOCABULARY CARDS #2

LATIN VOCABULARY CARDS Latin vocabulary practice and revision activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner Latin vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall and Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. I’ve given the plural of nouns, as well as the gender - plurals and gender are key to recreating accurate Latin, so this introduces students to those concepts from the very beginning of their learning. Set 2 features 45 beginning words & phrases in the following categories: The Animal Kingdom Numbers & Roman Numerals 11-20 Greetings & Conversation My Family High-frequency Verbs The Reference, Recall & Write book has 8 pages. It includes an alphabetical Latin-English reference list of all 45 words & phrases. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocab quizzes too! The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in Latin. There are two written recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding English word or phrase from a Latin prompt. The words and phrases are in random, rather than category order - this challenges the memory more than when the vocab is in the order learners first learn it in. Written Recall Challenge Two: This challenge requires students to write the corresponding Latin word or phrase from an English prompt. The words and phrases are again in random, rather than category order. I encourage students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last for years. LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS 0-20 WORD SEARCHES

(0)
PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS 0-20 10 differentiated word searches with answer keys focusing on Latin Numbers & Roman Numerals 0-20 ideal for beginner Latin learners of all ages - I’ve found that word searches are the ideal activity for young and beginner students of Latin to engage with the written word in Latin, at the same time developing essential beginner Latin vocabulary. They are easily differentiated - and the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows. The word searches are really versatile, and I use them in lots of different contexts, such as starter and refresher activities, fun-time fillers, sub lessons, or free-choice activity at any time during the school year. There are 5 Latin to Latin grids, where learners are prompted with the Latin words, and look for them in Latin in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. Grid 5 increases the challenge by prompting the Latin numbers as gap fills. There are 2 English to Latin grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Latin equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in Latin, they also complete the Latin word list on each page. Grid 8 is also Latin to Latin, where learners have to make a simple calculation in order to establish what Latin word they are looking for in the grid, and again they write out the Latin number in a separate column. Grids 9 & 10 prompt with Roman Numerals, and learners also complete the word column in Latin. There is an answer grid for each word search, and this is essential for helping students develop more independence in their learning - they also give students an additional opportunity to engage with the target language, and are a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! Have a browse in my store for more Latin word searches, and a wide range of other Latin teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-10 WORD SEARCHES FOR GERMAN SPEAKERS

(0)
ENGLISCH ALS FREMDSPRACHE ENGLISCH ALS ZWEITSPRACHE ESL EFL ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-10 for German-speaking learners of English. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in English, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-10, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 6 English to English grids, labelled with Big Ben, where learners are prompted with the English words, and look for them in English in the grid. For additional vocab consolidation, Grids 1-4 also feature a German word list that learners have to complete, as extra practice for saying and writing the numbers together — this works really well for embedding language. Grids 5 & 6 require learners to work out what the numbers are in English, and write them out again in English, for additional spelling practice. There are also 4 German to English grids, labelled with a***traditional German House*** , where the prompt words are given in German, and learners have to find the English equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in English, they also complete the English word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the direction of reading from left to right in both English and German, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per page, as younger learners of English as a second / subsequent or foreign language are still developing literacy skills in their first language - I’ve found too that older beginner learners benefit from very clear and accessible worksheets, definitely avoiding too much text on a single page. INGLÉS ESL DAYS OF THE WEEK WORD SEARCHES

INGLÉS ENGLISH DAYS OF THE WEEK WORD SEARCHES for Spanish-speaking learners of English Sopas de letras Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in English, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches with answer keys, focusing on the days of the week in English, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 5 English to English grids, labelled with Big Ben, where learners are prompted with the English words, and look for them in English in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features a Spanish word list that they have to complete, as extra practice for saying and writing the days of the week together in both English and Spanish - this works really well for embedding language. There are also 5 Spanish to English grids, labelled with the Spanish flag, where the prompt words are given in Spanish, and learners have to find the English equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing in English, they also complete the English word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are great for helping learners develop independence in their learning, and also give them an additional opportunity to engage with the target language. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right in both English and Spanish, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. Word searches are really versatile - use for cover lessons, as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when you’re introducing the days of the week in English. For a real focus on this vocabulary, and to facilitate learner independence, photocopy all the grids as a workbook, and let learners simply work their way through. The workbook format is great for home learning activities too. I also create an answer key booklet - one booklet for small groups of 3 or 4 learners is sufficient. If you create workbooks and answer key booklets, these are best prepared photocopied double-sided and with a double staple on the left-hand side. This format is far more reader, writer and learner-friendly than using a single-staple in the top left-hand corner for example. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. I encourage students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, pronouncing English, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. KS3 ITALIAN BEGINNER ITALIAN 99 beginner Italian words & phrases with 99 matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for beginner KS3 Italian learners, and a great revision resource for students entering into KS4 Italian. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner Italian vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Saluti : I giorni della settimana : I mesi dell’anno : I numeri da 0 a 20 La mia famiglia : Le parole comuni : Italiano in classe : Domande e risposte Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best Italian accent to find all the matching words & phrases cards in Italian and English. The card templates allow students to apply their Italian knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. Creating new language is an essential element of successful language learning, so this is a key part of the overall activity, and it’s really popular with my students. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. There are three recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from an Italian prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in Italian from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Italian to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their Italian vocabulary.
