I created them for my younger learners to practise their Spanish numbers around Christmas time - they love the Christmas theme! KS3 GEOGRAPHY KS4 EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND CAPITAL CITIES - 2 QUIZZES WITH 120 MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS European countries & capitals multiple-choice quizzes are great games, suitable for any age range, at any time! I play them a lot, at different times of the school year, and with all different age groups. We keep a tally, so that we can track whether students are beating their own record. PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS 1-10 AND GREAT FOR YEAR 7 LATIN TOO 10 differentiated word searches focusing on LATIN NUMBERS 1-10. They’re great for independent learning - I just give my students free choice to choose the level of challenge, making sure that over time, everyone really does challenge themselves! I always give answer keys too - they give students a further opportunity to practise their numbers, and to both self and peer assess. Students at this age are developing learning skills in general, as well as learning Latin, and I’ve found that this particular design of grid and challenge level, works really well as an all-round learning resource. PRIMARY SPANISH NUMBERS Los números cero - diez: diez sopas de letras! My Primary Spanish learners really enjoy learning their vocab with word searches. In terms of pedagogy, they really are a great way of providing students with opportunities not only to embed their vocab, but also to engage with the written word and spelling in Spanish. They are really easy to differentiate, ensuring that students have a series of progressive challenges. I use word searches regularly, and have a stock of them ready in folders - they’re ready to go for starters, refreshers, plenaries, fun-time fillers or activities for cover lessons, at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m introducing numbers in Spanish - ideal for high school beginner Spanish too. In this set, there are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocab is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There’s a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they’re looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid. I always give my students answer keys for this kind of activity - they help students develop more independence in their learning, give them an additional chance to engage with the language, and they really enjoy correcting their own and each others’ work! There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for KS3 Italian students who are getting to grips with conjugation in Italian, building their Italian verb vocabulary, and beginning to work with more complex texts, including a range of tenses. FRENCH TELLING TIME GAMES French telling time, five & ten minutes past and five & ten minutes to the hour - 2 games and challenges! I HAVE, WHO HAS? is a great language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell time in French. It’s a whole-group communicative game, with a multi-skill focus on speaking, listening, reading, vocabulary-building and developing accurate pronunciation. The game really does help to create a lively language learning environment, and is a great alternative to more traditional ‘drilling’ activities. This set features analogue clock times, five & ten minutes past and five & ten minutes to the hour. There are four cards per 8.5 x 11 page, which ensures a font size suitable for beginner French learners - it does mean a bit of prep if you laminate (I always do, as they last for years!), but the size of the text is really important for beginner and young learners. I created various sets of Christmas-themed vocab cards to get them feeling festive - it definitely works! I tend to have several sets all ready, and keep them in learning folders, so that students can choose which vocab groups they want to work on, though often, they like to work with the complete set, so it’s a good idea to have a couple of sets so that there are enough to go round. There’s vocabulary from the following word groups in this set: = Les animaux (indefinite article, all singular) = Les parties du corps (definite article, range of singular and plural) = Le temps = Les fruits et légumes (definite article) = Les matières scolaires (definite article) My students really like to learn independently, and I’ve described a range of games that they particularly enjoy. They love the competitive element of the whole-group quizzes, though the pdf version works really well too for small groups - and if you’re homeschooling. There are a lot of cards, which means some prep - if you can, laminate them, not only because they’re far better to learn with, but also because you’ll be able to use them over and over again for years! PRIMARY FRENCH BINGO FRENCH TELLING TIME HALF PAST BINGO GAMES! 100 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS AND 32 CALLING CARDS! Bingo games are perfect for language learning, and they’re really easy to differentiate. All my students, regardless of age, find playing the games a great way of consolidating their vocab, and developing their French language skills in general - bingo is absolutely perfect for speaking, listening, reading and writing/spelling. I designed the games for Primary French lessons, but they work really well for an introduction to telling time in Year 7 / first year of high school. I have folders ready with lots of different bingo grids in them, so that they are good to grab and go whenever students select them, or I decide it’s time for a quick practice and refresh session. In this pack there are six files, which are all non-editable and in a zipped format: File 1: 50 clock face 9-square grids, 2 per page (25 pages). I play in different ways, for example I might give students a random selection of pages, and they select the order of grids they play from. Sometimes I cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables, and students select grids randomly from the bowl. Depending on the size of your class, you should have several winners per game. The grids designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game. File 2: 30 French time phrases bingo 9-square grids, 2 per page (15 pages) - great for both listening and reading skills File 3: 20 mixed clock face and time phrase 9-square grids, 2 per page (10 pages). File 4: 3 blank templates for clock face, time phrase and mixed clock face and time phrase games for students to create their own bingo grids for each other. File 5: 32 French calling cards, with all the time phrases written in full. I add an extra challenge by calling the time phrases out in English from time to time - I’ve found that’s a really great way of further consolidating vocab - students have to focus carefully on the language ‘switch’! It’s definitely useful to have calling cards, so that you can keep track of what you’re calling out, and it also lets students be the bingo caller too, meaning they can play quite independently. File 6: French counters you can laminate for students to play with — or keep it low-tech and use pens or pencils!
